Hi Guys,

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on a good set of headers that will fit on my 350 with factory a/c. The engine is basically stock with an Edelbrock intake and Holley 4 barrel. My goal is to pick up a bit of low and mid range torque, and I'm looking for some advice. I need to find something that will fit, and I want ceramic coated headers too. The guy who does my mechanical work wants to put shorty headers on but that seems pointless to me. If I'm going to the expense of replacing the entire exhaust system I would like to experience some slight performance gain, which as I understand it, shorty headers don't really provide.

So has anyone had good luck with a set of full length headers that fit well with a setup similar to mine?

I have a set of long tube headers on mine, 72 with a 350 and A/C. They were on the car when I bought it and they fit very well. I don't know the brand though. Sorry

I have Hooker headers on my 72 with a 350. I had them powder coated 4 years ago but I do not know what model of hookers they are.

Thanks. Does your 72 have AC in the original location?

Yes I have the A/C compressor in the original location. I had a special bracket made for the lower rear A/C mount to attach to. The new bracket spans the second to third bolts holding the header to the manifold and a spacer for the compressor and another for the power steering pump. I will try and get a photo of said bracketing in a day or two. I had sinus surgery on Tues and am just now starting to get around. You might remind me after this weekend to get he photo.

I am running Holley Flowtech headers which I had ceramic coated by a local shop. They work well, fit good with factory ac, and have held up well. You will have to dimple them slightly to make the fasteners easier to reach, so you will want to do all that before getting them coated.

Thanks. I'll check into both the Hooker and Holley brands. I thought it would be strange if no manufacturer made some to fit.

I tried to get wome photos of the special made A/C bracket. If you look closely you can see where it spans the header tube over number one cylinder. The pic are not the best but it was hard getting the camera down into that tight area. I had to make special spacers to go behind the bracket for the header bolts to attach to the head. I hope these help you. The guy who made my bracket is a really good fabricator and can make about anything.
