My 71 never had one but I don't have A/C.

I don't remember my friends 71 SS with A/C having one either.

That's why we must keep our radiators at the full level mark, well below the top of the fill neck, or it will blow out excess coolant when it gets to operating temperature and expands.

My 71 has A/C but didn't have one but I put one on belong to a 82-93 Camaro/Firebird,you can still buy it new from GM and it fits pretty good. Here are a couple of pics.

I don't know if you want to go this route but 75-79 chevy nova had a overflow tank that will fit behind the pass. side headlight. It goes under the fender along side the battery.

The only pare visible is the filler cap. I didn't think they made them as repo's but I found them listed in chevynova.com P/N 14042-1for $39.95.Maybe this will help.
