I see on Hemings there is a fella selling his 1 of 123 produced that year only, 1970 400 small block 4 speed cars. He has a Build sheet that shows 400 small block and a M20 transmission. of course its triple green hahaha

what says the rarity on that to command $39,000usd ? How many members have SB 400 4spd cars I wonder........ lol another one for Doug to start tracking......

Yes I have seen quite a few 1970 350 4 spd cars pop up for sale........ but not so many 400 4spds.....

so I challenge the Monte gods that say the 1 of 80 1970 350 4spds is the rarest car........... whats the number on the 400 4spds which is a 1970 only engine........ anyone....?

A total of 839 small block 4 speeds were made in 1970. 589 big block 4 speeds in 1970. 16,595 Monte's got the 400 small block in 1970 but no break down of how many were 4 speeds. I would guess it's pretty rare. But what it come down to is people's personal preference big block 4 speed or small block 4 speed that will set the price. It's like having a real clean 72 Monte for sale at a very fair price but because of the color not to many people are looking at it for what it is ......had to say that lol. Something is only worth what people will pay.

Don't know why they didn't offer it in 71. That was a great motor I had one in my 71 Caprice and still have the block and trans out of that car in my garage for some project at some point in time.

So true Darren my black 71 doesn't have a straight panel on the whole car but I love it as much as our other Monte's, it is a disease.

If it has always been a Kansas car I bet there has been very little rust issues.

I've always been curious how many were built. I've never been able to find that info.

Somewhere here there is a breakdown of that info, maybe Aaron or Joe can help find that. Looks like a pretty cool car and nice find too, welcome to the site.

Very nice car! We have some production statistics at the link below. It does break it down between small block and big block but not specifically the 400 small block. I would imagine the 400 small block with the 4-speed is more rare than the 350 as I have seen very few of them.
