Hey guys!

Can someone please explain the correct way to stow the jack and spare tire on a 70?

I have the sticker in the trunk lid but it's not very clear.... it looks like the jack goes under the tire. Not sure about the jack hook, base and the tire iron.

Any explanation or pictures would be appreciated thank you!!

From my 71. I ordered rally wheels with G70x15 tires. My spare was and still is upside down in the trunk.

Good luck!

Hey Wayne, I am not sure if all 3 years are the same, hopefully someone else will chime in that knows for sure. But what i have on my 72 is, tire iron is attached to jack with 2 rubber sleeves. all 3 pieces (jack, hook, tire iron) are put down first in the small metal tab. Then the tire goes on top of that upside down (you might have to move the hook, and rachet part alittle to fit better. Then i put the hold down bolt through the tire, then place the base over that (also upside down). Then the wing nut, and done.

Hope that is right because that is what i have done.

Willie,

Do you figure out if the jack for a ‘72 stored the same way?  Trying to find out as well.

Thanks,

72 should have the plastic guitar case. The directions are in the case. I’ll get a picture of my 72 in a bit.

Thanks so much!  Looking now for that guitar case.  Appreciate the help.

I have a couple of them but I think one of the straps may be broken. If you need one let me know

I purchased the original style straps for the tire iron at opgi a few years ago. Actually had them in stock. Not sure about now tho 🤔..

My bumper jack on my 71 is under the spare tire. But I bought a sissors jack from Harbor Freight, and that's what I will use if ever needed. It worked well with my 67 Impala, and I needed it once.

I agree. I wouldn’t want to have to use one of the bumper jacks. Unsafe and also damaging to the bumper.

I put one in my 71 because I like the organization of it. I’ll probably put one in my 70 , if I ever get that far, too. Yes I know not original and I loose points. lol.

I keep a few blocks of wood. One between the jack and the frame, and others to block the wheels.

I keep an aluminum floor race jack , jack stands, and a 4X4 in my trunk for cruising. But again I'm NOT a "stock" guy so thats just me. The same in the Cougar.

There was a couple in Syracuse that needed a jack in Syracuse for their Jeep. Luckily for them Dennis C was quicker on the helping than I was 🤣
