50 YEARS AGO TODAY, I went to Bill Fox Chevrolet in Rochester, Michigan to pick up my brand new 1971 Monte Carlo! I am so happy I never had to sell it or that it was never destroyed or stolen. Here is the first picture, and one from June 1, when I graduated from High School, class of 1971. When I was young "old" men would often tell my how much they regret selling their first car. I listened to them. My older brother still has his first two vehicles, our grandfathers black 1937 Dodge Pick Up and a Red 1963 Triumph TR-3B currently under total restoration.

Congratulations, Very cool that you still have the 71. You need to find the cap and gown and take a current day picture

Bruce, you need to put on a cap and gown and get another picture.

I still have my first car also 56 years later but it is not a Monte Carlo

Ok I bow to the master. I thought 38 years was about average.

My older brother's 1937 Dodge P/U originally purchased new by our grandfather. Grampa sold it to him in 1964, when he graduated high school.

My older brother's 1963 Triumph TR-3B purchased in 1967. Picture from 1969. My younger brother and I restored it in 73 with as little $$ as possible. Today it is very close to being finished after a total body off frame restoration.

I bet it didn't look like that when your grandfather bought it

Rob,

No it didn't. It now has the larger Cu in. 25" long engine from a dump truck (265 I think) with the two carbs and a T-5 five speed.  He still has the original engine that is a 25" Chrysler in-line six.

Love it Sam.

Thanks Willie! I’ll be up your way in three weeks. Going to visit my brother in law in Huntington.

I would love to, but it’s not looking like I’ll have any free time. We fly in late Friday night, celebrate my sister in law’s 50th birthday Saturday, spend the day wife my wife’s cousin Sunday, and fly home Monday. Makes me tired just typing it, LOL! If I find a minute I’ll let you know. If not this trip, maybe another time. We come up once or twice a year.

Great to hear! Where was it "born" and how much did it cost? Any 50 year old pictures (or drawings)?
