Very nice. And thanks for the pictures. I can use your brilliant restoration to help with mine. One heck of a nice example to follow.

Carpet install began last night and will continue tonight. An awl works well for locating holes and a straight soldering iron is perfect for making holes. It melts a nice round hole and cauterizes the edge so it won't frey etc. It is also fast and easy.

Larry, did you use a 30 watt electric soldering iron?? Or 60 watt? Or butane?

Hi Paul, I'm not sure how many watt but it was an old electric one I had...worked great
