GideonBowles Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Hello, I am new to this club and figured it would be a great help in restoring my car. My car is a Burnt orange 1971 Monte Carlo, it originally had a 350 and was one of the lower end packages. The first owner had the car and got into a rear end accident and ended up selling the car to the owner before me. He found the car with no engine, tranny, and it was missing the interior so he started building up the car, he had the idea of making it an SS so He bought original interior for the car, the SS seats, Floor shifter, and dash, along with buying a 454 to go into the car. He pulled the engine out of a 73 pickup so its not the same as the OG 454s but it works and he also put in a turbo hydromantic 400 transmission. When I bought the car it had been sitting in his yard since 1984 ish. With the car I got a heap of parts; bumpers, two whole front clips, steering columns, doors, two frame assemblies and much more. So now I'm going to be rebuilding the car, painting and repairing the damage, luckily for us the car turned over first try and runs great, it wont drive because the breaks and all the other important components don't work but it saves us money to have a good engine. It was a great deal but she needs a lot of work. I have a ttached the beset picture I have currently, and if anyone wants to see more I will gladly take more. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipOHoZq7vLeAec84ujKTdFCP9iLxHWPZ6huuANGZ https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPBb7VqdCdXwUBEV9AcLTFfCSumTUrhwWqAnSFW https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipOnWzArJE4hLnTu9JzHc0dhXeHSbYlhZ4zps0sc https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPybJm4cTsTTDsHTnetHbOUUyE04SM_Zhl0uPr8 https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMeeFfBKCJLCRQsg9V1gVfkH-pRgiRuEDxI8guQ https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNel59DldXYUPAtpWutrkwxV6KH78TmIn9OS1Bj https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMp_ZegB527u9vKHcwTqzFXDd-kJdYqn3x99yns 2 Quote
MC1of80 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Hello! Welcome to the club. Photos not working for me. Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 sounds like a good project but yes you gotta have brakes. Make sure it's safe before you drive it. It's OK to clone it into an ss as long as you never try to pass it off as a real ss. Good luck with it. Quote
Canuck Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Welcome! The photo links get an error for me. Quote

Dtret Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 A buddy of mine just inherited a house, you’re side of Hays. Just off 70. But I can’t remember the town. Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I remember going through Kansas on 70 about a year and a half ago it was the worse rain, sleet, wind, thunder and lighting I'd ever seen I was scared and I live in the snow belt in NY. Quote

Rob Peters Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Gideon, Welcome aboard the boards. We hope you like what you see here and decide to become a full fledged dues paying member of the club. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here to help you with any questions you may have. It sounds like you got a good deal. One nice thing about Kansas is how dry it is and many cars that have lived their life there don't usually show a lot of rust. Just a note on the interior. There was no such thing as an SS interior. With the SS package it included, to name a few, the air ride suspension, 454 engine, heavier sway bars, boxed rear lower control arms, shock protectors, ss badging. Things like Bucket seats, center console and guage package were all options available on any Monte. Regarding posting pictures. There is a post on the boards that will assist you in posting pictures. Providing links to a password protected hosting site will not allow others to see them. We do LOVE pictures here. We have a saying here that goes something like this..... "No pictures, it didn't happen. Here is the link to assist you in posting pictures. rob Quote
