Canuck Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I came across this build sheet on Facebook. I always knew it was an available combination but never seen one and assume it is very rare. I thought I would share it here. 2 Quote
MCfan Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Cool find, Aaron! It was apparently one of the 839 small blocks shipped with a 4-speed in '70. Guess no one knows how many of those were the 400 ci engine. While it was a fairly low optioned car, it was a rather nice looking (cranberry red with black vinyl top), fun/sporty configuration with black vinyl buckets/console, 400 small block, 4-speed. 3:31 rear gear and G70s with rally wheels. It apparently wasn't optimized for performance as the 300 hp 350 or 330 hp 402 would have been a better choices, as well as, posi-traction, dual exhaust and the full gauge instrument cluster. No power options but at least it had power steering (which my 402 4-speed was built without). I can't imagine any dealer would order that configuration for inventory so someone must have had some specific objectives and/or budget restrictions. It would be a great starting point for a very fun first gen if it could be found today in reasonable condition. 1 Quote
Steve G Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Why do I get the feeling this build sheet was found with 6 other sheets stuffed in the seat of another Monte Carlo? 1 Quote

The guy that owns the car posted it as he wanted help decoding the sheet and his body tag. 1 Quote

We collectively have done that numerous times. Maybe he should become a member (assuming he isn't already)? 5 Quote
Canuck Posted January 9, 2023 Author Posted January 9, 2023 Yes he received some help. I directed him to the decode pages we have on the site. 7 Quote

420ponies Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Welcome to the Club. Glad that you have become a member here. These "4 spd " cars are oh so few, like to see more of them on here. Is that the "orange" with Black top, or "red" with Black top? '71 right? Sweet!. Again , Welcome to the FGMCC! 3 Quote
willie Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Chris very cool!!! She is very nice!!! Are you having her restored as we speak, or down the road? She looks great as She is!!! 2 Quote
4spd Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Currently being worked on. Engine & transmission are pulled. Theyre being rebuilt & cleaned up. Every single part on the car is either being rebuilt, replaced with the correct dated part or just cleaned up. Been working on it around 1.5 years. Almost complete. Hardest part was finding correctly dated oem parts. Would've been nice to find this community earlier. Probably would've helped us in finding parts quicker. 7 Quote
overdrive Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Your car looks great! Welcome, and thanks for posting the photos. I've started a registry for 4 speed Montes. I'll add you and your car to it. I have a '71, 4 speed. There's a thread in the Restorer's forum. Dan 2 Quote
