kc8oye Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 ok here's the pertinent info: Dell Dimension 9100 desktop (warranty expired) Dell Samsung FMD9410NDL1 Flash Card Reader M7502 (13-in-1) Windows XP pro SP2 i just bought a brand new memory stick, Sony Brand, 2.0gb memory stick pro duo Mark 2 with MagicGate the problem is, my camera has NO problems with the stick. my internal flex bay flash card reader.. does. it will recognize the stick, let me access ONE file, then kicks back an error that just says "incorrect parameter" Samsungs website doesn't even acknowlege this card reader exists.. Dell's website won't help me w/o paying. I've got a post up on dell's user forum, google work has revealed the problem for a LOT of people with no solutions found yet.. it appears it's a firmware problem. my other usb flash card reader, an ImageMate 5-in-1 that has the latest firmware upgrade from SanDisk reads the stick lickety-split with no problems. do you guys know if there are firmware updates available for this 13-in-1 drive? or should I consider just buying a new reader? I like the internal type reader that's one less usb cable running across my desk ~ Quote
Ian Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I tried googling for it, and I see someone posted a response on your Dell message board post.. Did that help? Ian Quote
Chris Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Check how your drives are lettered.. A, B, C, etc. You may to have them go in the opposite direction, Z, Y, W, etc. Make the drives that are permanent at the far end of the alphabet. That way way a removal or USB drive is installed the system will automatically start at A. There's are some technical reasons for it I can't remember. Had the same problems with a stick on 2 PC's and doing this corrected all of the issues with it. If you run XP Pro you can do it this way: What you want to do is really pretty easy in XP pro.First go to control panel.Click on performance and maintenance and then administrative tools.Next double click on the computer management icon.Double click on the storage icon in the right half of the window. Finally double click on the disk management icon in the right window. All of your drives should be displayed along with their respective drive letters.Hard drives and partitions above, and optical drives below. To change drive letters simply right click on the drive you wish to change and choose change drive letter and path from the dropdown menu.In the new window select change. You will have a drop down menu on the right of the new window that will let you select a new drive letter. Two things to think about.First, you won't be able change a drive to a letter that is already in use.For example:you want to change E to D but D is already assigned.First change D to a letter that is out of the way and not in use like M.Now D will become available for change.Change your E drive to D,and now you can go back and change the M drive to suit your preference. The second thing is that programs installed on a drive or partition with its drive letter changed may have to be reinstalled to function,as the program location will have been changed. You may get around this by clicking on the program icon, and if windows can't find it let it do a search.Hope all of this helps you. kc8oye Posted October 5, 2008 Author Posted October 5, 2008 i have an external one that works.. my ImageMate 5-in-1 but I'm already playing swap the USB cables all the time... my Dell has ONLY USB ports.. no Ps/2 ports for the keyboard or mouse. so between the k/b, the mouse, my scanner, my printer, my imagemate, my mp3 player, and anything else.. 5 usb ports aren't enough! guessI could start using my USB hub again... (my old desktop only had 2 usb) Quote
kc8oye Posted October 5, 2008 Author Posted October 5, 2008 as for the dell response,, no it was no help.. the post was insisting I have a TEAC card reader, and I don't.. it's totally different from what they described. i guess I'll just buy a new one next week and see if that fixes the problem.
