704spd402 Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 What do I need to tighten up my steering in my 70 Monte? Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 There is an adjustment on the gear box if it's not worn out that is. A lot are going with close ratio gear boxes which I will do when the time comes. 2 Quote
704spd402 Posted July 11, 2023 Author Posted July 11, 2023 Where can I get a close ratio gear box? Is this off of something completely different from a Monte? Quote
Jason72 Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 There is a thread on here that is not too old. Shouldn’t be hard to find. I put a replacement on for a 1988 Monte Carlo SS. I’m pretty sure I needed a new rag joint and adapters to get the lines hooked up. Quote
Jason72 Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Found it. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/topic/26494-borgeson-steering-gearbox-install/ Quote
704spd402 Posted July 11, 2023 Author Posted July 11, 2023 I am going to order one- what about the rag joint? Does that stay factory? Quote
704spd402 Posted July 11, 2023 Author Posted July 11, 2023 Thanks for the info- much appreciated! Quote

As Steve said I'd try this first "There is an adjustment on the gear box if it's not worn out that is. A lot are going with close ratio gear boxes which I will do when the time comes." On the Borgenson If you already have power steering all you need is the additional coupler "Special Attention: Models older than 1977 require BRG-990012 steering coupler. Requires power steering pitman arm. Includes adapters to accept either o-ring or inverted flare fittings. Features 3/4 in.-30 spline input shaft." 2 Quote
