rather than resurrect  an old regulator thread, or start a new one, i will add here...my external regulator was around 14.6 v, but when i put a load on it  she bounced around from 14 to 16v plus...i went with the "vr715" electronic regulator...the flickering lites seems to be eliminated and is very steady at just over 14v.   i have a very old voltmeter but i correlated with another vehicle so i think i'm ok ...    question is what is the purpose of the capacitor tied across one terminal to ground?   if you are running hei ignition and an electronic regulator ,can/should it be eliminated?? thanks!!   brian
