JP_AstroMan Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 (edited) Hey folks. I am down to the last two pieces of trim removal in prep for body work. I wasn't able to find any info on how to remove these two. If anyone can shed light on this I'd really appreciate it. Edited August 7, 2023 by JP_AstroMan Quote
714024SPEED Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 They bolt in from the back side with studs. You have to remove the end caps to get to them. 4 Quote
JP_AstroMan Posted August 7, 2023 Author Posted August 7, 2023 End cap meaning the large painted piece that the trim is attached to? Quote
JP_AstroMan Posted August 7, 2023 Author Posted August 7, 2023 Thanks for the tip! I would have never guessed that. Quote
420ponies Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 (edited) Standard "we build them better" back in the day. Things don't just " pop" off like the newer cars. So, what are you doing working on such a nice looking Monte? Edited August 7, 2023 by 420ponies Added content 1 Quote

I had a couple rust bubbles showing under the vinyl top...it has now progressed to a full blown paint job. I do have another trim question for ya...the two different types of clips that holds the lower trim on- I'm not sure how to get them out yet...will they be reusable? Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 The ones in door just pop off, the ones in front fender may have a nut behind the fender if there still OE look like these. They are not the exact ones but hopefully I can make them work 1 Quote
420ponies Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 (edited) Ditto as to Steve's post. I'd replace anything that is rusted. You can spend the time and blast them and paint them with some rust resistant paints, the new ones are supposed to withstand rust. The plastic ones just pop out. Sometimes you can save them. These are also available. I go through Lutty's for all my trim pieces. Edited August 13, 2023 by 420ponies Added content 2 Quote
