Sir/Ma’am,

Happy Veteran’s Day!!!Spending my Veteran’s Day with my 72 Monte I’ve neglected a bit since I’ve gotten it (almost two years ago), anyone have any insight on how to fix my interior light switch, it’s so lose it just pushes into entire dash…most times I can’t turn my lights on because it’s too difficult to turn them off because the entire knob goes into dash

Remove the headlight knob bo pushing the "pin" on the switch itself. Then tighten the ferrel that attaches the switch to the dash.

You may be able to tighten it without removing the knob but you will have to pull it out, turn on the lights.

Thx, i can’t seem to find the switch, but I’ll keep feeling under dash

Sorry, forgot to add, removal of the dashpad makes it easier. Screws are in the glove box, top and top of dash face.

I saw the glove box screws but nothing else

There are 4 screws above the gauges on the instrument panel, but it looks to me like the part of  by your dash that holds the switch is broken out.

Some pictures from my 71, No A/C Monte.

This very small push button with spring is what you push in then pull the knob and shaft out to see the area that requires tightening

(Click to expand this picture) FYI, on my 71 column shift I show this for info if you remove the instrument cluster. Remember to unhook the thin wire cable that attached from the shift column to the cluster PRND21 indicator.

FYI on my 71, here is the headlight switch with the plug / connector removed to show the 7 connectors I have on mine. You need to make sure to match what number and position your vehicle requires. Some aftermarket replacements DON'T have the correct / same number of plugs and won't work correctly.

Thought I would pass along some unrelated but, good to know, items for everyone.

As Bruce stated check to see what you have but my 71s have the 7 connectors but my 72 is different it has i think 8 connectors.

I'm sorry, maybe I misunderstood MrDavie's original post. I thought he wanted to know how to tighten his headlight switch not replace it. 🤔 Maybe I should read his original post again .... Slowly.

I posted the above to prepare anyone for "snowball effect" disasters related to any headlight switch repairs.
