Hi All,

Just got my wiring harness in from american auto wire that I am going to use for my 454 build and my question is regarding the horn relay. I have the old one from when the car was a 350 but it was also an old style alternator and points and I converted to an SI alternator and HEI. Maybe that is beside the point but I am ditching the voltage regulator but I still think I need the horn relay right? If so should I just spring for a new one? If so where is a good source?

Thanks!!

No, horn relay is built into the AAW harness. It will be inside the car, near the fuse box now.

still stuck on horn relay relativity to alternator and voltage regulator. maybe i have an issue with my ss in Illinois.  lights are dim sometimes, and when I use my turn signals my voltage Guage toggles to negative. I was looking into this and just replaced the alternator with new summit chrome job a few days before I was diagnosed and went down wit my pancreatic cancer. never was able to complete the problem.   any Ideas and do I need to start a new topic instead of tagging on to curtish57's topic.  don't think I understand my initial problem because it still did the same things afterward. going home next week. it's been a year here in florida at Moffit cancer center.  I intend to repair and drive sin city when i return home.  any direction is appreciated. sorry curtish57 for hogging the conversation.    steve

You're welcome! If you have any questions, PM me & I'll send you my phone number. I have some experience with the AAW full wiring kits (in fact, another Monte is coming to the shop in a couple weeks for a full harness and Dakota Digital dash install).

The horn relay is simply a bus location for the 12 volts. A central termination point, of sorts, that gets distributed to different places from there.

Take that chrome alternator to the parts store and have it tested, your original one also. I’ve seen a lot of them bad out of the box. Same with voltage regulators. Instead of going back to Chicago you could delay it a bit and head the other direction to Carlisle. Get to see a lot of nice cars and meet some good people. I think that should help the recovery process too.

working on it !!!!

Just saying, this looks to be the biggest FGMCC meet, at least as few as Ive attended. Yes all the cars are great, but it's the people that really make it work.

This is built into the front lamp harness? I got an engine and front lamp harness from aww but I don't see what would be located inside now.

Did you get factory replica/replacement harnesses, or the entire Update Series 510336 harness?

I sent you a PM with my number.

That just shows the personal one on one help that we always strive to give our members and non-members of course. People helping people, than it turns into friends helping friends.

We ended up doing a video call for over an hour. That worked out pretty well, made it a lot easier to identify connectors and circuits. His 1970 is a little different than the others, so my old 72 harness I have was not quite the same, but still helpful.

What did people do years ago before the internet & this high technology, lol. It certainly has made the world a smaller place, and easier to get stuff accomplished, despite some of the downsides of it as well.

I doubt they'll like me either. I tend to refer to those cars as 'sh!tstangs', even to the owners that bring them to the shop 😁.

We got together at someone's garage, pulled out the tools...... And beers, and usually had the problem solved around 2 a.m.

Or when that "somebody's" wife kicked us all out.. LOL
