There are scammers out there.................

Was talking to a friend of mine who had an acquaintance who bought a car off a website sight unseen............ Great website, tons of pictures, answered the phone every time he called, until he got the check 😲 Ya'll know the horror stories but it's just a reminder.

I always try to suggest to people looking for classic cars, get your budget, establish your priorities and what's negotiable, and figure in hotel airline and transportation costs.

I had a great conversation with a scammer via email. Was an 86 Toyota Corolla AE86. Great driver quality car. Ad said the car was in Texas. Well I happened to have a friend I know online from that area. Asked if he'd be cool with looking at a car. He said sure. I let the seller know I was interested and I would like to have someone I know look at it. He then said the car isn't actually in Texas but Pennsylvania. At that point I had a feeling it was too good to be true. So I told him I know a guy there too. Send me the address. At this point he said he didn't want to make the transaction in person. And on top of that, he wanted the money to be sent via ebay. I say that makes sense but my buddy will have to see it first.

Guy finally gives up and says he doesn't want to sell the car now.

When I first started looking for my Monte about 2 years ago I came across one that was what I thought to be a super deal. I was communicating with a guy via email who would take at least 2 days to respond. Always apologizing for his late response due to being deployed for work in a  bad service  area. He sent me a link for additional photos and info but I wouldn’t get a response to technical questions I had, it was like he really didn’t know the car. So I forwarded the emails to a friend who buys and sells cars. He confirmed it was a scam. One sign is the “deployed in a bad service area” statement. It wasn’t long after that, the page with the photos tied to the link “can’t be found”. I ran across a  similar MO on another one  a few weeks later. This was my first experience at shopping for a car on line. A real eye opener for someone with zero experience at on line shopping. Fortunately no money was ever sent and I was able to get exactly what I was looking from a reputable source.

You know what they say, "If it's to good to be true, It's not true". I had this go around with some Monte Carlo parts some time ago, day after day requests about price, where  we could meet up and do the exchange (big pieces ,too much $$ to ship). Parts not in state listed, heck I even offered to drive from Carlisle to pick them up since it was closer there than where I'm at. No deal, I knew all along it was a scam in my mind and darn it.... it was. So, "if you know the man, know the plan" .There are way to many out there that just love to get you hooked in. Buyer Beware!!
