72MonteMan Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 A number of years ago, I had obtained information on a gentleman who restored OEM Radio Assemblies. He had a website and unfortunately, when our computer died, my bookmark/favorite for his website died with the computer. I have no recollection of this gentleman's name, or his website. Does anyone have a recommendation for a quality business or individual who can restore and work on the OEM AM/FM/8-Track Stereo Radios installed in the First Generation Monte Carlos. Specifically, I'm interested in getting my 8-Track Player functioning again. It's been a long time since I've been on the Forum and appreciate your help. Here's to "Letting the Good Times Roll", as sung by "The Cars". Quote
Montemedic Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Pick up a Hemmings Motor News and look thru it. Listings for stereo and radio repair, factory speakers rebuilt in there too. Reputable vendors advertised and listed in there. Old school classifieds before computers were available. You may be able to get it online now too. 1 Quote
1970mcss Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 I will look at my receipts at my office. I may have his number. I think he was in New Jersey Quote
Marks71 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Hemmings Motor News has about 16 listings for radio repair and restoration under Services Offered. 1 Quote
cbolt Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Regardless of your 8 track player being restored, I would caution against actually playing an 8 track tape in it. Unless they are now making new 8 track tape cartridges there is a high probability that any tape you select will, due to its age, not give you anything but a crinkled mess of tape lodged in your newly refurbished player. Buddy of mine has a car that is worthy of being concourse judged and he told me the story of how a judge once pretty much forced him to insert a tape into the player in order to verify that it actually worked for the judging. Anyway, the tape was almost instantly eaten by the player. While my friend didn't lose points for something not working he did learn a valuable lesson about trying to use a cartridge that was 40+ years old. 2 Quote
1970mcss Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 I checked my records and I don't see who did the repairs on my radio. I will keep looking and if I find it I'll let you know Quote
72-CLASSIC_RIDE Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 My Delco AM/FM is currently out getting some repair, tuning & cosmetic work done. It has been at his Shop for about 6 months now. Bad timing on my part as he indicated he is/was Slammed with work. Expecting it completed in July/August. His business is called "Joes Radio Repair" in South Carolina and looks to work on many varieties of Vintage Radio's. Not having any info on where to have work done, I did some research and came up with him. Can't substantiate his work until radio returned but considering the demand for his services, I felt comfortable I sent it to the right place. He actually provides a Data Base indicating where your Radio is in back log along with a projected completion date but no guarantee's. You might call/email and see where you may fit in. Best of Luck, Doug 1 Quote
72MonteMan Posted June 23, 2024 Author Posted June 23, 2024 Sorry for my delayed response...I don't get on the site frequently. I appreciate all the input received. That's the great thing about this club. There's always someone who has the answer, or information to get you pointed in the right direction. Thanks everyone! Quote
Jared Richey Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Never knew there was a radio place 45 min away in Laurens SC Quote
