Hey All, I think I am getting really close to firing this thing up and breaking it in, just going through some final things here and had a question about heater host routing. I am not planning to run heater hose to the heater core just because I don't know the condition of it and I will never need it or use it. At least for my purposes right now. Anyway what is the best/proper configuration of the heater hoses from the WP to the Intake and visa versa.

Thanks!PXL_20240702_180911096.thumb.jpg.cb0b477db293b1285cea2024f4cb8f02.jpgPXL_20240702_180903575.thumb.jpg.9b69ae2e5360a4d243eae9790db078eb.jpg

You need the bypass hose at the spot where you have the two fittings installed already. I can see there's a pretty big mis-match as to how they're going to line up though. You may need to look for shorter, factory style fittings, and use a 3/4 piece of heater hose.

As far as the heater hose ports that go to the heater core, just cap them off at the engine. It's always a good idea to keep the heater intact, in my opinion though. I've had occasions in the past where I was stuck in heavy traffic, the engine starts getting warm, and turning the heater on helped lower the engine temperature. Yeah, it sucked sitting in a hot car, in the summer, with the heater on, but it did work well enough to drop the engine temp to a safe level. It's simply another heat exchanger, to help cool it down.

Thank you for the reply, yes I will look for shorter fittings, these are not going to work. I agree about the heater core but I want to keep it out of the equation when I start this engine for the first time, the car was sitting for the last 6 years or so and to my shame one year ish including a winter outside with the front clip off from a semi hasty engine/tranny removal. It was inside other than that but still that one year outside took its toll, I've had to replace a bunch of the exposed parts. The heater core was capped so it may be just fine, also the inside stayed pretty dry overall so idk. Either way I deemed that later problems lol.

If you have the equipment (pressure regulator, gauge, valves, fittings), you could always run a pressure test on the heater core. Maybe run it up to 18 psi, lock it in and see if pressure drops over a period of time.

That would at least give you a little bit of comfort it may be good, without having to remove/replace it.

I know that sounds crazy, but a member actually did this in Carlisle this year. Old school tips and tricks

Yes I am going to do this for sure, just after I get this engine squared away

Curtis....

Keep in mind that IF you ever do hook up the heater, the inlet and outlet are different sizes. That may make you want to change the fittings at the engine to match.

Do I run hoses on both ports of the WP to the intake or is the one I have good enough and I can plug the other 2?

This is what I had when I pulled the 454, and then with the crate. Yea this was my first engine swap so I had all sorts of tape and notes everywhere 🤣I had to get new fittings fir the crate using "stock" hoses

As long as the fluids aren't running all over the floor and the thermostat is in the green, all is good. 👍
