JP_AstroMan Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Has anyone ever seen a fuse box cover for our beautiful Montes? I converted my automatic to a 5 speed and my foot is coming awfully close to taking out the fuse box. If I ever slip off the pedal, it could be a big problem... Quote
S.Maug Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 your right Jeff both of mine are without covers. wondered that many many years ago. great question. Quote
JP_AstroMan Posted July 11, 2024 Author Posted July 11, 2024 I would rate it an 8 out of 10 on the difficulty meter. Definitely worth the effort. I still can't believe it's a manual now. Ridiculously fun to drive. Quote

Two completely different animals. I wouldn’t do it to a documented SS or Custom. If I get bored and do a convertible it would have a manual transmission. 2 Quote
Dtret Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 By the way, I have never seen a fuse box cover on a first gen but I can’t imagine it would be that hard to do. 3 Quote

JP_AstroMan Posted July 12, 2024 Author Posted July 12, 2024 How would you go about making a fuse box cover/protector? Quote
Leghome Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 Making the cover is no problem but attaching it would give me fits. I would take some light weight metal and bend it to shape or plastic and heat it and bend it Quote
jft69z Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 Considering that every Chevelle with a stick shift (and the limited number of Montes) never had a fuse box cover from the factory, it would suggest that GM never saw the need. When I converted my prior 72 Custom to a stick shift (with Chevelle parts), I never ran into an issue there either. That being said, anything is possible with enough time, money, and ambition. Quote
Marks71 Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 Whatever you do I think I would stay away from a metal cover. 4 Quote

Dtret Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 Go to the salvage yard and scope out the under hood covers. You can find many small ones that you can adapt. Quote
Scott S. Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 I'm thinking that maybe an '80's G.M. cover might be adaptable..... Or something that Tupperware/Rubbermaid has in their inventory ??? I remember a thread regarding back up tail lights for a bumper that was getting illuminated and hung on a wall..... Not sure how that one ended. 2 Quote
Scott S. Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 If I remember right, it was Canuck that had the idea..... Quote
