JP_AstroMan Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 Has anyone ever had their hands in the shift indicator on automatic steering columns? I'm looking into ways to make it disappear in one way or another. Just thought I'd ask if anyone knows if there is a way to remove some or all of it. If I can get into the guage I could at least make a cover plate. Quote
Dtret Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 The steering column only has one part for the indicator. There is a wire screwed to the back of the collar that works the indicator when the car is shifted. Get a floor shift speedometer, no indicator. 1 Quote
JP_AstroMan Posted July 20, 2024 Author Posted July 20, 2024 Ahhh right...that makes sense. If I want to be cheap, do you know if there is a way to get the clear cover off the guage? Quote
mon-tss Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 It is glued on, have to pry it loose at the prongs that stick out. Will have to remove the gauges from housing. Can put a piece of black tape over it, But if you are this far in just as well put floor shift speedo in 1 Quote
Dtret Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 You can take a soldering iron and melt the tabs and then glue it back on. But may be easier to remove the cluster and pull the speedo out the back. 2 Quote
JP_AstroMan Posted July 21, 2024 Author Posted July 21, 2024 Well, for some reason Ecklers had a new floor shift speedo for 50% less than anyone else. Couldn't pass that up. $75 Quote
