Don’t feel bad about finding out the car is actually a clone.  Dtret has 2 “SS’s” and a “Custom”.  Yep, you guessed it… all clones. All that matters is that you enjoy it however you want to build it.

I don’t feel bad about my clones I know what I have. If I remember correctly you wrote a pretty big check for your fake SS and then having to purchase all of the missing parts. Must be daunting knowing that you can’t measure up. And stop making me ruin an awesome new member post. lol.

Welcome to the madness, nice looking Monte and stance 🤘 There is a ton of knowledge here and people ready to share anytime. Do you drag race or just run it to see what youve got ?

No plans to drag race, just driving and seing what I what I got at this point:) I have also 1974 Nova with a 383 stroker, that one has been built by me more to the fast driving-direction. I bought Monte because it's very beautiful car, and really kind of luxurious compared to Nova.

Interested to know Juho, just how much/many of our USA classic do you see in Finland and your area. would be kind of like having alligators as a livestock in Illinois. Met a fellow from Sweden one time. he had a dodge super bee. said that Chrysler muscle were highly prized. I was going to give him my 66 Chrysler 300 2dr hardtop, 440 to him. clean and complete but needed some restoration work. he said from engine to bodywork, that wasn't the issue. it was finding the cars. still have the car, but haven't been able to figure where I put his number. tried to call him also but couldn't figure out how to make a call to Sweden. It was over ten years ago. Beng and Thomas. cool guys. Still looking for they're. numbers. I am car rich, but trying to share the love of the sport.

Most of my cars are and were bought 25 plus years ago as restorables because I saw them getting rarer to find and if you could, prices were starting to go up and skyrocket. Help you any way that I can Juho. I have always enjoyed the sport/hobby. probably call it my insanity !!!

Originally it has come to Finland as SS many years ago from New York, and then the previous owner has built it during long period of time. He found out that it is a SS clone. He has also built LS6 style BBC to it. Not massive powerful but enough to go 1/4 mile 13.0.

My plan is to build it more to the cruising purposes, first thing is to get the a/c working and get rid of the rear tire rub. 275/60r15 on 10 inch wheels with 5.5 bs seems to be too big tire, fender lips have modified but still there is rub in certain circumstances. Planning to go with 8inch wheels and 255/70r15.

Maybe you guys can comment if that is doable:) Have read a lot about tire combos here…

Juho,

If your plans are to make it more of a "daily driver", some things you might want to consider are the rear gears and transmission.

The gearset for running 13 second 1/4 passes are probably fairly tall, so finding something in the 3.23 to 3.55 ratio would be a good start.

The 255/60-15 tires Steve mentioned are fairly typical and give a good clearance...... Anything wider than an 8" wheel tends to require suspension modifications.

One other thing I was happy to have done is having switched to an overdrive automatic transmission. Really boosted the mileage on the open highway. Some prefer manual transmissions.

There are even those who have gone to the fuel injection systems for better mileage and reliability. But there are all sorts of things you can do to make your car "yours". :)

Best of luck on your new toy...

Scott.

Hi all,

Nice to be here! Just bought my first Monte Carlo and very exited.

Not an original SS, but build to that direction with sway bars, 454, TH400, Gear Vendor od and other nice stuff.

This forum has been very informative and great source of information!

Greetings from Helsinki, Finland.

Thank you Scott!

My Monte has Gear Vendor overdrive, It’s quite nice addition. I have been told that the gearset ratio is 3.55.

Going to have new 255/70 tires under the Monte soon, I wanted to go with 70-height to maintain the stance is much as possible. Tire will be slightly taller and slightly narrower compared to the 265/60 I currently have…My 8 inch wheels have 4.5 bs, just have to finish the painting process of those rims:)

Thank you for all the tips!

I don’t know the actual numbers, but we have quite vivid and active fans of USA classics here in Finland and also in Sweden. Cruising nights in several towns, car shows etc.

I will look if those names you mentioned, they somehow sound familiar.
