Interesting conversation, have to get my 2 cents in here. For what it’s worth.. kids, a different world for them now than when I grew up. They are being indoctrinated into a higher technological environment my opinion is , it is not teaching them to think. Everything is completed for them at a touch of a button.. if you can’t think for yourself, you are easily manipulated to conform.. when I grew up, we did things ourselves, sometimes the hard learning way. But we built on that ..

as far as automotive technology, it’s really beneficial for engine efficiency and comfort of the vehicle.. however, seems to me at least, a lot of the new technology is being used to pry into private lives… something I don’t agree with.. that’s my take on things, good but bad on the technology..

So I must be stupid then....

So I guess you don't have cable TV (or any modern TV), any vehicle newer than 1974, a cell phone, a stereo, high efficiency furnace or digital thermostat, coffee maker, calculator etc?

nope I don't' sorry I didn't bring a prize for everyone who ran the race. Guess I'll get back to churning my own butter, and mowing with my great grandfathers push style rotary mower.

I don't have thin skin at all, just a low tolerance for statements that don't make sense.

Comical that you see no use for computers, yet here you are using one....that's all.

We're good :2beers:.

No way, that wasn’t an insinuation for anyone. Just a general observation on my part. Like I said, technology is good and bad. I use newer technology everyday. And used to be in the repair business of that field. So I have seen it advance. But when, if it is used , and it can be, to control or dissuade the young from using their minds , i can’t agree with that concept. Actually, it isn’t the technology, come to think of it. It’s the powers that be whom are in control of using that technology for there own benefit to control others thinking.. 🤔 one that I can think of is the constant advertising of video games that seemingly program

our youth to do things they will regret..

to me, they are being programmed.

My response wasn't directed at you Ron.

I agree with your observations as well, plus I also had no choice but to get on board the technology train for my job. I didn't know how to start a computer, much less use one back in the 90's. Same goes for automobile repairs, I had no choice but to buy expensive scan tools & diagnostic equipment if I wanted to keep making money repairing vehicles. Not much of a future for the guys beating out ball joints and replacing exhaust systems.

Even collision repair requires diagnostic equipment now if you want to do just about anything, as most of the safety systems need programming & calibration to bring the vehicle back into spec. Skip those steps and a customer gets hurt in a collision, you're likely going to get sued, or worse. If you don't do a pre & post repair scan and document the results, you're gambling with your future (and the safety of your customers). It also helps weed out the shady people who will say "the car was fine before we brought it here"...

FWIW, J. Edger Hoover was spying on the public decades ago, it's nothing new...😁

Thanks 👍, very true on the Hoover thing. Now it is so much easier to do because we all carry computers in our hands and cars..

Sometimes I wonder , after seeing all the changes that have come about in my lifetime, technology wise, how much further can or will it go.. I can imagine a day, not in my lifetime, when your thoughts 💭 will show up on some computer somewhere. Sounds crazy I know. But , my grandparents probably never dreamed that someday we could communicate with the world instantly.. 👋. Later … thanks for your prospective.. Ron T

Oh yeah, mention any subject....specific advertising will immediately pop up on FB or whatever....it's always listening.

I'm still waiting for the Jetson's flying saucer car, or the Star Trek 'Transporter' method of travel. That medical scanner thing they had was cool too... (never was a trekkie, but did watch the original series as a kid)

My two cents is, i agree with ALL of you!!!!  But at some point in the future, no one will be social, everyone will be talking on the computers somehow, someway. Like an army of Stepford Wives. Not what i really want for my grandsons or their kids.

I use the comp sparingly because i am basically forced to, as i love this club and the friends i made because of it!!!  Problem is I am not keeping up with technology, partly my fault and second it just morfs so fast i cant keep up! I have no problem learning but with no base its hard to keep up!!

However like Steve said for bad things (and i know of plenty of bad things that i will not post here, but glad to have a conversation privately) i think its terrible and I think the firms that make and program these tools (comp) should have more diverters that bring these bad people out in the open. We should all want our personal stuff to stay in our comp only, and not have to worry if some little punk in another country is breaking in to it!!!

 Just saying!

Rightly said!! I still have problems logging in, but I can run a CNC  (Fanuac control only) machinery. That was a big learning curve for me from manual machining. Now I just wait for my Kerig to make my coffee. See, all good!!😆😆

I still have a percolator coffee pot we use in the camper if we're somewhere where we don't have power, it works great. Next week we'll be up in the mountains on a lake with no internet or phones and no power, use a generator to keep batteries in camper charged up. Walk out of the camper and about 15 feet to the lake, it's great having morning coffee looking over the lake.

Isn't that truly beautiful. got the same old school percolator coffee pot. remember using it when I was 6 years old. my sister and I didn't have milk, cereal, those things all children get and take for granted today. we had coffee, black, maybe if lucky some uncooked spaghetti noodles to crunch down on, we'd go down to the park catch quarter sized bluegills', bring back home, boil them uncleaned and eat em whole. And a cigarette. yeah that was my life at 7. It never really got better. Thats one true that early childhood. I'm a very self sufficient individual my friend. I've got Grit.   But never had anything one would or could call parents or family. My poor sister didn't turn out so well.   Steve please enjoy your camping trip, sounds like a dream come true.  And I sincerely hope you're feeling good.

People should have been held responsible for what they did to my sister and I. but sadly never were. there's no real justice in my line of thinking sir.   generations. strange concept. beautiful word though.

Been there, same crap. I always looked up,and saw that I could become a better person. Never stop, keep looking forward. My Sister was 2 years older than me, and always was defending/ keeping me safe. I could never believe what she went through with my parents, always by my side no matter what. Love her to death. I get to see my favorite Aunt and my Sister each year in upper Minnesota in the summers. Always looking forward to seeing those two.We have a great time together. Steve, I would like to know where this place is. I'd like to stay a few days there.🙂
