I think the green with white stripe goes to temp sender, i don't remember where the double green wires go. The cut orange wire does go to the right side tranny but is not used.

Goes to the transmission...... Or fell down along the transmission ????

Do you still have the orange wire that disappears into the right (passenger) inner fender ?

I had taped it up because it wasn't being used.. Right side of car came down with the starter wires if i remember correctly.

I'm working from a '70, so my codes may be off, but the only orange wire I can think of is the heater wire.

If you look at the mid left of the photo, you can see which one I'm talking about.

Maybe the last owner re routed it ??lha12.thumb.jpg.515097e96c7c1ff77f8330190fe320de.jpg

Scott your car is a 72 right?  Not sure if its the same for a 350 as mine is a 454.  I will go out tomm and look to see if i can see that orange wire, I will bet i cut it and taped it up, as i was told it was for the tranny and didnt need it. I will also ck the color wire going to my sender for you.

Montelishi is a '70 with a 350.

So yeah, it may be something different....

Hope you figure it out.  ;)

I think the green ones run to the temp sender.... If they're running in the same spot.

And the only orange wire I can think of around there should be power to the heater fan. I'd have to take another look.

Here are the pics I took yesterday20250122_161105.thumb.jpg.a13e12d1f9daee98fa5887b9e545e3d7.jpg

1st - 2 pics are the green temp sensor,  probably went to a vacuum port on thermostat housing

3rd  TCS connection at the transmission

4th is the old resistor wires to starter then distributor

5th is, I believe the orange wire that goes to the blower. It was cut and inside the harness. I didn't find in until I opened the whole harness

Hey Jeff, {i will check all of these tomm) I think the first and second pic, on Left side of motor goes to a sending unit in the head, on my BB.

Third yes could be tranny (but shouldn't it be on other side of the motor) I think mine is on the left side. Maybe its an oil temp plug, i don't know?

Fourth looks right (starter wires)

Fifth that is the same wire that was in my harness also cut and tucked and taped up. I was told i didn't need it but it went to the tranny.

I don't know how much different the 350-350s are to the 454-400 are, but maybe someone else could chime in that knows better than me.

I will confirm what i stated tomm when i get in there!

I found this, don't know if it helps or not. I think it's for a 71 350 like mine.

Hey Jeff, i checked today and i i guess because it a BB, its a little different, pic 1 and 2 i don't have 2 wires together with that 45 degree end. I do have one wire, a solid green wire going to my sender in the Left head. And one wire, a green wire with a white stripe going to a sender in my Right side head.

On the third wire i do not see any thing like that on the top side of the engine.

Hope this helps, i cant get to my parts cars today or tomm to much snow on them now, maybe by Sun just to ck and see.

Willie, that green wire I sent you, or had you order  can’t remember, should have the double 45 degree end on it. It’s got the loop wire that does nothing. Green wire on right head, part of the TCS.

Yes i did remember that Dennis but didnt see it as the car is in the trailer with limited room. I will send you pic, post if you like. I could only see one wire per side.

These are the correct ones for the tcs on the right head. Very possible a big block only thing. Two wire sensor with one wire looping right back to the other wire on the sensor. The final single wire goes to the harness under the booster.

I am also trying to get the idiot lights working as well as the after market mechanical gauges. So do I need to circle one of those wires back into that plug

Posted

One thing to keep in mind is that the senders are different for gauges and "idiot" lights.

Not only are "idiot" lights closed contact senders as opposed to graduated senders, but the amperage on factory senders is different.

Ask me how I know... lol.

Well the battery light still works. The only ones I want to hook up to work are Oil and Temp, just because they are there. If I remember correctly,  the oil and temp wires work off of grounds. In other words, to test them, we would just ground them out and the light would come on.

Yes, the sensors ground the circuit for the lights when the contacts inside close at a preset temp/ loss of pressure.

So grounding the wires out will light them up.
