Dtret Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I was raised on Monte’s. Dad had 71,73,76,80 and passed with the 84. mom had a 76 they divorced and his girlfriend had an 81. My middle brother had probably 20. But only drove a few of them. After my 77 I was a little late getting back on board ( 2020). 6 1 Quote

Wd71MC Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Well I purchased my first Monte last Oct and I was 40yrs old. My hobby was working on a vintage cabover semi truck but that was becoming to much of a pain to fool with in 2019 I got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and that was something to deal with getting up and down out of the truck it would just wear me out not counting if I had a big job to do on the truck. So I just decided to sell my semi and get me something that was in better shape to work on as a hobby and well I seen the Monte at a car dealer where I new the guy that owned it and stopped by to check it out and I literally loved the look of it and so did my wife so I done some negotiating and well the rest is history lol. But when we got the Monte Carlo home I had to show my wife something that I had for over 30 some years and it was a Monte Carlo keychain I purchased when I was a kid because I always loved collecting keys and keychains. Sorry for the long post. 9 Quote
70 Owner Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 I was 17 years old when I bought a 70 Monte Carlo in 1980. It was originally white with a black vinyl top and black interior. I worked and saved for the car, and then a paint job and custom wheels. The memories of that first car stayed with me, and now I’ve had my current 70 Monte for 2 years. 6 Quote

MCfan Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 22, I had just graduated from Kansas State in January and started my career with IBM in Kansas City in February. While I was off to IBM training schools, my wife went back to work at a hospital so we now needed two cars. After 26 weeks of training, I was back in KC without my own car so I went down to Pappas Chevrolet to get one, completely unaware of the Monte Carlo's recent introduction. The sales manager was driving an Autumn Gold '70 Monte with a white vinyl top and cream-colored cloth bench seat plus AC and some other power options. But it also had a 402, TH400 and a positraction rear end (which I knew from my hot-rodding brother-in-law was a good drive train). I had no credit established yet so had to go with a high-risk, high-rate auto loan, but I brought that baby home and loved it for four years. With a second child on the way, my wife wanted a bigger car so I let the Monte go and got a new '74 Buick LeSabre ... big mistake! But, 40 years later, post retirement, I bought my '70 big block factory 4-speed which I still own and drive during winter months in FL. Also, owned a '70 SS a for eight years. Loved them all, but the BBC 4-speed has been the most fun to drive. 7 Quote

cbolt Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I was 24 when I bought my first brand new car, a 1986 Monte Carlo SS. I was 38 when I picked up the '72. I do have pics of the '72 when I first bought it but they are all 35mm prints that have yet to be digitized. Ill see what I can do about posting them. Here is the car the day after we brought it home 2 Quote
