I know I'm going to catch grief for my choice in engine color but I have decided that on these cars, I'm going to build them for myself.  None of my Monte's are matching numbers and none are SS cars.  All are rescue cars with rust, grime, dirt and possibly a sordid past.  They all are high mileage cars.  I have two 350/350 drive trains that are out of heaven knows what so I'm going to do things my way.

I am big into colors and I decided that I'm going to paint the blocks the body color so when I open the hood at car shows, it matches.  Again, my way is the way we are going!

This block is a 350 probably from the mid to late '70's; the heads are camel hump heads from the '60's and I have no idea what the 350 turbo is out of.  However, the engine and transmission have a fresh rebuild and they should run really good.

The old engine and transmission I will tear down and send out for rebuild and put it in Blueberry, the 1970 I bought earlier this summer.

I ordered a new Holley set of valve covers and air cleaner.  I have a new radiator to put in as well.

I have a Rochester Quadrajet I'm putting on this one.

I'm going to keep the original exhaust manifolds but replace the single exhaust with dual exhaust.  That will probably happen here in the next couple of months.

I certainly look forward to seeing the finished product , actually in professionally judged shows , you will loose points if your engine block does not match the body.  And as you said, you are doing it your way, so who cares. Also it's really great that you are able to reuse your collection of engine's and transmission's. Keep up the good work 👍

I agree, you do what you like! She is neither a matching numbers or SS so who cares, do what you feel like.

I do have to say that green does pop!!!!

Looking forward to the rest of the projects!!!

I'm going to put HEI on this build.  Anyone have a good recommendation for brand and type?

I'm happy with my Accel set up, but Montelishi's just a street cruiser/daily driver....

If you're going for performance, I'm sure there are better products.

As far as HEI, there are a lot to choose from. I would definitely go with a billet housing, a steel gear for the hydraulic flat  tappet cam, a good brass terminal cap, and at least a 45,000 volt  coil. And as always, keep an extra module in the tool box. Never know when ,or where , they tend to not work.By the way, my engine is purple....... Story to follow.IMG_2559.thumb.jpeg.8cc01f1f2e8055e0280c07581b2930b3.jpeg

Good Grief.  I just did a search on Summit Racing for HEI distributors for small block Chevy 350 and got about 300 options!  Prices range from $85 to $1,000 at first glance.

Looks like the Accel options are in the $150 to $250 price range.  That will probably do.

Great driver the way it is.

These overdone cars can be nerve wracking to park anywhere.

I'm looking online for the radiator hose clamp that attaches to the top of the shroud.  Do you know where I can pick up one of those?

Use the forum search function for alternative ideas, they aren't reproduced anymore 🙃

I use a couple of black zip ties although those straps are not really needed at least on Ole Red he has never had a problem but I do keep good hoses on him to avoid problems. I get a long one and thread it from the bottom up over the hose and then back down through the shroud with a shorter one inside of the shroud

That’s why I absolutely love driving my 72 Monte and my 70 chevelle. I can park in the front row of Walmart and not worry about door dings. My 71 and my 88, I’ll park all alone in the far side of a lot and there’s always a rouge cart sitting close to the car. Makes my blood boil. lol.

Ever see the insurance commercial where the guy parks at the far end of the lot with no one around, and as he's walking away with his family, someone pulls up and grinds into the side of his car ???

Personally, I'm thinking it's a pissed off neighbour....... :k

Years ago when I was working for dear ole Delco Remy there were around ten of us that would park on the back row in 15 parking places and non of us ever got door dings. Great looking group of cars and one heck of a bunch of good people

Well, I'm in a Pickle!  Literally and figuratively.

My engine swap has hit a snag.  As you can see from the picture below, the old and tired 350 has newer heads that are drilled and tapped for the alternate bracket on the passenger side and the AC brackets on the drivers side.

My new engine has some 327 camel hump heads that I've used on a few builds now.  Unfortunately, they are not drilled and tapped for those bolts.

I can live without AC on this car but not an alternator.

Any thoughts on what I can do to to make this happen?  The second picture is a blend of the correct bracket (below) and another one I had kicking around (middle).  I don't even have the top one that wraps the alternator yet.

If you Google accessory brackets for double hump heads, there is a lot of help there for your situation. There’s a company that makes plain steel brackets that Vintage air had recommended to me when I had to relocate a power steering pump during the install of a vintage air system I was doing. Unfortunately I can’t remember the name. I left a message with Vintage Air regarding the company name.

Google Alan Grove Components. The number Vintage gave me was 913-837-4368.
