Well I received my quarter window chrome and weather strip kit and  I’ve looked up past post about replacing the quarter window chrome and weather stripping and I just was wanting too see what you use too install it with. I seen on past post they used window tape I just want to make sure I install it correctly.

                                              Thanks

For the strip that goes on the front edge of the window, I used petroleum jelly to lube the rubber...... Some like dish soap, but it has a corrosive agent that will eventually dry out the rubber.

Thanks Scott I sure appreciate it. So what holds the chrome to the window is that where you use the window tape or am I overthinking it.

No, your not....

I used a thin two sided adhesive tape for that. It was about 1/2" wide, but you can always trim the excess off.

It's basically a sticky rubber strip made by 3M. Just put it along the edge of the window and attach the chrome....... But be careful, it's fairly strong and you don't get any adjustment room without taking it all apart.

I used and old bicycle tube to put my chrome strips on my new glass. After getting the chrome on I just took an extra sharp knife and trimmed the excess off. They have been on the car 11 years and not any problems

Thanks very much Scott so I just put the tape on just the outside edge of the window and not both sides of the window. Please forgive me for all the questions this is my first time doing this lol.
                                               Thanks

Never any problem with asking..... That's what the site is all about. ;)

Larry's idea of the tire tube works as well, I just wanted to be sure it didn't come apart..... That's why I chose the extra "adhesive" option. :)

Glass setting tape is what the factories used for many years. It doesn't actually have glue on it, like the name implies. Any automotive glass shop will have different thicknesses. It's easy to use and it works very well.

You fold it over the edge of the glass and use dish soap to allow the chrome to go over it. I hold the glass in my lap and use a hammer on a block of wood to tap the chrome piece onto the glass. Having tape of the correct thickness is important.

Well please forgive me but I probably should’ve asked this first do you have to take the quarter window out to replace the chrome and weather stripping if so how hard is it to remove the window.

                                                 Thanks

I did mine with the windows still in the car.  If you do it this way please make sure you somehow secure the window in place because if you don't you can damage the riser mechanisms.

Thanks very much Rob I sure appreciate it. So I just need to make sure I have the window secured to keep from moving back when I’m installing the chrome and weather strip.

A rubberized mallet is always the safest way to go. ;)
