Tonka Man Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 When doing a restoration on these Monte's, do you recommend the paint job first or the vinyl top first? Quote
Canuck Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Paint first. I had my 1970 fully painted including the roof before the vinyl roof installation. 5 Quote
Dtret Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Paint. You want some on the roof under the top. 6 Quote
Jared Richey Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Exactly like said. Paint first always. 4 Quote
Scott S. Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Paint first..... That way there's no open edges along the trim for corrosion to sneak in. 3 Quote
Tonka Man Posted September 25, 2024 Author Posted September 25, 2024 I was looking at my car last night. The vinyl does wrap under the chrome trim but does it actually wrap under the pinch weld at the top of the windshield and around the back window? I need a new windshield and I need to fix the back window because it leaks but I'm wondering if I should wait for both of those tasks until I install the vinyl. Quote
Dtret Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Absolutely 100 percent. Separate note. Easier to install new headliner with glass out too. 4 Quote
Tonka Man Posted September 26, 2024 Author Posted September 26, 2024 What about taking that chrome trim off that wraps the vinyl? How is that done? Quote
714024SPEED Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 I have owned cars that were painted after the top and all after a few years would get water under the paint and cause a bubble when washed and then the rust comes. 3 Quote
