70white402 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Mike, did you redo yours or did you buy the seats already done? I need to do my blue seats like yours with the cloth in the middle of the buckets. Quote

I need to do my blue seats like yours with the cloth in the middle of the buckets. I bought foam, burlap, covers and hardware from year one. I cleaned up the springs and took the seats to an old time upholstery shop to have the covers and foam installed. Probably would have been cheaper to just buy completed seats to be honest. But they are really nice 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Time to take her to the drive-in and test them out. 1 1 Quote

Tonka Man Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Did the kits come with the cloth and the vinyl for the buckets or just the cloth? Quote

Was not really a kit. Bought each component as needed. A kit would have been great. The seat covers were complete with cloth and side vinyl. 2 Quote
420ponies Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 They look very nice! Yes, upholsterer is the way to go. This way anything happens to the seat, I'm sure they would fix it. I've taken covers off a pair of seats. Going to have an upholsterer switch these out for leatherette/stitched style. 2 Quote
FrankOC Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Mike, what brand seat covers did you go with? Quote
71SSclone Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Do you have part numbers? Everytime I look at Year One, they have vinyl bucket seat covers, but no listing for cloth. I have cloth now and would like to keep it that way. Thanks John Quote

Tonka Man Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 I just talked to an upholster about doing mine seats. He said that he has a standard type of material for $30/yard and the split bench would cost $1,200 and the rear seat would cost $800. He said if I got material that was more factory looking it was $100/yard and hard to get. Then the total price would be about $5,000! I do like the original look but I'm not up to the $3,000 price difference. Any thoughts???? Quote
Dtret Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Them numbers don’t jive. The labor is the same regardless of the material. 70 bucks/ yd difference. If I remember correctly I got 6 yards of cloth and 3 yards of vinyl for the upper and lower rear seats, two buckets and a front bench( I got extra to do the bench if I didn’t want to install the buckets but I wanted it all from the same run). At 30/yd, how many yards does he need? Multiply that x 70 and that should be the price difference. Not 3000 dollars. That’s almost 43 yards of material plus the original 30 amount. No something is off. 4 Quote
Tonka Man Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Thanks for the tip. I'm new to the upholstery process so any tips help. I'll revisit that conversation with him when I take my seats in around Christmas time. 2 Quote
Auburn852 Posted October 15, 2024 Author Posted October 15, 2024 Just to share my costs. The covers, foam, burlap, new plastic backs, and misc seat hardware was under 1500. Upholstery shop to install all was an even 1000. Just under 2500 for 2 bucks and rear bench. Still some coin, but the old foam had disintegrated into powder every time I sat in car yellow dust blew out. Really super happy with the results of the redone seats. I did conver the driver side from power to manual slider. The power module which I have is shot. 2 Quote
1Bad454 Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Thanks for all of information gentlemen. I am going to be getting my seats reupholstered soon and need all the advice I can get. I'm looking for the factory black upholstery for a 71. Quote
420ponies Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Yup, 3 yards for back seat ( top), and top piece for driver's bucket. I still have enough for a bottom bucket. Black cloth from CARS Inc. 1 Quote
Whons Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 Here are bucket seats that I put in my 71, as close as I could find. A lot less expensive. 8 Quote
