Tonka Man Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 What is the story on hood emblems? I believe '70's did not have a hood emblem. I purchased two '71's this year and one has a simple spear hood emblem and the other has one with Chevy oval sticking up above the spear. Both cars appear to be optioned the same so it seems odd to me that they have different hood emblems. The latter does not stay straight. I pulled the emblem tonight and I'm not seeing the ability to tighten that spring. I'm assuming the only solution is to replace the spring on that emblem in order for the Chevy oval to stand upright? Scott S. Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Nathan, Parts Place does carry that spring just for such an issue. Or at least they used to. Might be a kit including the emblem now. The '70 just comes to a point, the '71 has the "oval".... Better known as a "gun sight" (lol), and the '72 has a flat front that actually had a decal with the letters "MC" in it..... But most of those have come unglued over the years. My best guess would be that someone has either replaced the hood with a '72, or just couldn't find the right one. If I remember right, each spear has it's own patten for the holes.... So if there's no extra holes, I'd go with the '72 hood idea. Scott. Quote
714024SPEED Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 A 71-72 hood will have the hole for the 71 spring to pass through. A 70 hood does not have the hole. If you put a 70 hood spear on a 71-72 hood you will see part of the hole on the sides of the spear. 4 Quote
