I talked to the owner while I was in one of the staging lanes pulling cars from point a  to point b (fire martial did not want the cars run that often - only when crossing the block). Nice guy, but I think the victim of bad information and nostalgia.  Turns out his dad had one back in the day, and wanted another one. Then the dad got sick, and after owning it 4 yrs could not drive it anymore. Its a 3 owner car.  The son was trying to do right by his dad, but the information he was fed said don't take less than 100k. I almost choked.  He said his reserve was 70, but if the bidding was close he might drop it to 60. I didn't have the heart to rain on his parade, so I just said good luck.  I would have guessed it to be a 30-40k car with the right bidders. It was a dated older restoration, and while the interior looked good, the paint did not age well (my opinion).  Anyway....as they say....the bid goes on.

I would have to believe the closing bid of $42k was rather close to the actual value of the car. To each his own, however that would have been my top bid , if that.  Appears to be driver quality and needs some attention to be anything other than.

🙂Maybe I am cheap but to many issues.the car needs paintThat can get expensive real fast

Non functional A/C $$$

My 2 cents for what it is worth $32,000.00 to $38,000.00 usd

Do not get me wrong it is not a bad car.But to make it very nice it will cost some coin.

🙂One must always remember that the auction house will always try hype you up.

You must always factor all the cold hard facts.

Expensive  restaurants you got to eat hotel you got to sleep registration fees  transportation to auction also house percentage usually 10% to seller and buyer

It ads up quick🤔

No sale repeat all expenses  to bring car back home except house percentage

If you go to have a great time and watch the show yes go for it but the big auctions are not for the little guy or girl

Most of us are in it because we are passionate about this hobby

Again just my opinion

Definitely a lot of hidden expense that most people really never think about ! As you very well stated, most of us do this because we have a passion for it !

Don't forget getting the car transported home 🙃 But as I always say, the car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Also as a seller repeat all expenses if the reserve isn't met/lowered.
