Crystal 70 Monte Carlo Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 Hi, i was told my 1970 was an a.c. car, but the unit was removed. I have the fender bracket for the hose, all a.c. vents in and under dash, and when I took off old heater hoses there were a.c. line hoses that were attached. However, my mechanic said he doesn't think it was ever an a.c. car based on this firwall box cover? What do you all think? Was there a different firewall box cover offered? Sorry not sure of the parts name? Quote
jft69z Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 They make replacement covers for when people delete the A/C from their cars. The hole in the firewall of an A/C car has a large rectangular hole (which your cover there appears to cover), and the fact your blower motor resistor is in the engine compartment is the other tell-tale sign. Non-A/C cars have the resistor inside the car. The vacuum canister for the HVAC controls is another indicator, as well as the relays, wire harness, in-line fuse holder, etc. Non-A/C cars simply use cables inside the car to operate the heater. What does the heater control panel inside the car look like, can you snap a picture? You may want to consider a different mechanic who is more familiar with older cars, at least for this vehicle. 6 Quote
Scott S. Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 This is what my '70 non A/C cover looks like..... The shape looks similar, but there's no wire plug on it and the hoses are on the opposite side. Like Joe said, it's probably an A/C delete cover. Quote
Dtret Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 Are there signs of a condenser on the core support on the grill side of the radiator? Quote
jft69z Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 I noticed a FB posting where there were more pictures included. Definitely a factory A/C car. The control panel, as well as the 2 center vents in the dash are all further proof of that fact. 1 Quote
714024SPEED Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 That is definitely an A/C car. We have the same box on big Red to delete the A/C. 2 Quote
stangeba Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 If this helps, Top picture is WITH A/C and bottom is NO A/C 4 Quote
