jft69z Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Nice looking car, power windows, locks, etc. Too bad Ray Charles put the decals on the air cleaner lid. 4 Quote
Mopper77 Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Looks solid. Very nicely optioned. I'm curious about the "charged to" Research Labs - Warren, MI? Like...GM R&D? -Bill 1 Quote
mon-tss Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 The Research Lab caught my eye also. Doesn't look like it was shipped anywhere either. Maybe stuck around as a Pilot car? It is the lowest VIN number car that I have in the registry. Weird how bad the front bumper guards rusted, haven't seen that before. A little work needed under the hood but a good car to own. Top of the price line, but all the bells and whistles and cool story. too. 2 Quote

Good looking car, If it was mine, The first thing on my list would be to locate an original air cleaner assembly along with the original stove pipe. To me the air cleaner on there now looks like a hotrod and takes away from the really cool original SS454 engine compartment . And of course, I would install a new front bumper without the rusted guards. 3 Quote
cbolt Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 or just remove the existing bumper guards and have them re-chromed. 2 Quote
alain boileau Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 🙂Nice car well optioned needs work But if you reside in Canada it is about $86,500.00 cds Shipping and taxes and A/C taxe even if it does not work Alain🙂 1 Quote
alain boileau Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 🙂Just to add to my comments The photos show some rust issues on lower left front door And a lot of black paint on underside of car plus various other issues Does not make it a bad car As for value to me $35,000.00 to 38,000.00 USD.This is just my .02 cents CDS Alain🙂 3 Quote
Marks71 Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I think that’s the most options I’ve seen. Nice car,but priced outa my league.I noticed the trailing arms aren’t boxed. Quote
Michael Boyte Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 It looks like to me that a lot of these sellers are just flipping these cars and tagging on an additional 20-30k in an attempt to make some fast money ! And they rely on the buyers having more money than common sense. I would say they are trying to target the 40 plus age group, those with the money that want what they want and don't really care what it cost . 2 Quote
Canuck Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I’m not sure where to start. There’s a lot of little issues that don’t line up with the price they are asking. Maybe someone will spend tge cash on it though. I’d be happy with $60k for my 71 SS. 3 Quote
Leghome Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I noticed the NASON pint paint can in the trunk on the spare 1 Quote
alain boileau Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 🙂This 1970 ss 454 is like peeling an onion Sometimes you gotta go deep Alain🙂 2 Quote
Chevy Dave Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 I purchased a 1970 numbers matching "frame off restored" SS454 15 months ago. I have spent about $10000, doing most of my own work to correct the following: Air cleaner was damaged, heat stove was missing, tires were old, HVAC controls defective, AC hoses incorrect, AC compressor was Chinese, instrument cluster case and printed circuit broken, tach was inaccurate, auto level system leaked, sun visors needed replacement, alternator was defective, battery was old and cables incorrect, fuel gauge was inaccurate. Front clip gaps were bad, heat riser missing, carb needed rebuilding and new choke, correct floor mats missing, washer pump bad, hoses and belts need replacement, bad front control arm bushings, bad exhaust manifold gasket, broken exhaust hanger. My point is that these cars advertised with many defects can cost a lot more than you think to make it right. Fortunately I bought mine for a reasonable price, mostly knowing what it needed. 3 Quote
alain boileau Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 🙂Like I said sometimes the more layers you peel back the more cha ching$$ is involved. That is the nature of the beast.'Always be ready to jump in the deep end off the pool Alain🙂 Quote
Michael Boyte Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Always start with a budget, double that and if everything goes right, you will be close to the actual out of pocket. At least that's the way it always seems to work out for me . And the truth is, it never ends, There's always something else that will eventually need to be done $$$$$ 2 Quote
alain boileau Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 🙂It ends when you pass the torch to the next care taker And then you start another restoration It is a passion or sickness Alain🙂 1 1 Quote

Thats what I saw when I bid on a Monte at Mecum years ago. It was on the sellers website for 20K ( I think could've been more) a week later. The only thing that made me smile was they had it for close to 2 years before selling. 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Curious about the hood spear.... Looks like a '72 to me. And the mis-aligned headlights (plus the can of paint and bumper rust) make me wonder if there isn't a "fender bender" in it's past ?? 1 Quote

Leghome Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 Usually that type of Nason paint is used for touch up. It is acrylic enamel 2 Quote

jft69z Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 I'd rather have this car from them instead. A real 'CUSTOM', with a 'W' code 454. Too bad it doesn't have power windows, but it looks like someone put in a tilt column /NK4 steering wheel. Still a real nice starting place (except the price maybe). https://www.streetsideclassics.com/vehicles/8160-atl/1972-chevrolet-monte-carlo-custom-454 4 Quote
alain boileau Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 🙂My 1972 454 was midnight bronze with the fawn interior black vinyl top Very nice colour .Could be a nice starting point? Alain🙂 Quote
