DragCat Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Well just thought I'd post this old video from 14 years ago......If you don't like Metal just enjoy the visual 5 Quote
Glen Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 There certainly was an election thread but it appears that restrictions on content and verbiage are arbitrary, conforming solely to the whims of individual interpretation depending on venue. In other words, content of a controversial nature contributed and allowable elsewhere will be summarily dismissed as inflammatory on the FGMCC boards. That said, I find the reluctance to admit parity in content here both confounding and hypocritical. 1 Quote
DragCat Posted November 7, 2024 Author Posted November 7, 2024 I figured it got deleted..........But not surprising in todays world. Fortunately I don't live in a bubble, and still have faith in humanity. Just look back a few weeks when Mother Nature ripped through the southeast. Citizens pulled together for their neighbors, near and far regardless of the color of their skin, their politics, or their religion. THATS AMERICA. The funny thing about forums, social media, and such, once it's posted it really never goes away even when you delete it. 6 Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 The only one I saw was in non tech by Mike Boyte about was vote today. Was there another one? I may have missed it completely. 2 Quote

Ya never know when things might pop back up. Political races are the perfect example… smear campaigns using decades old pictures, quotes etc. always seem to come back to haunt people. And Willie, I immediately thought of Sgt. Schultz (I see nothing!) as well as an old saying I’ll occasionally use as I read your post: “admit nothing, deny everything and demand proof”. At the end of the day, it’s good to know where people stand. 4 Quote
Rob Peters Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Yes there was an election post, Joe mentioned it to me and it was decided to hide the post, not only because of the post but also because of a comment to the post. This statement is on the club website.... "Got something on your mind? Anything you'd like to discuss? Hop on in and say it! Get to know your fellow Monte enthusiasts on a more personal level! Most topics welcome! However, please no politics or religion, as they are sensitive topics and can get out of hand quickly... Heck, you need not even own a Monte!" We have this rule for a reason. First and foremost, this is a car club website, not a normal social media site. The reason for this is that a number of years ago we had major issues with arguments and name calling because of these posts. People are very passionate regarding religion and politics so we ask people to avoid these topics. After all, this is a car website. There are plenty of social media platforms you can go log into to give your opinions on these subjects and as a matter of fact some of these social media sites even have groups within their platform that you can join so you can express your views with others of like views or opposing views. These topics only create big arguments and name calling and even threats. Back at the time we instituted these rules there was a splinter group from here, who in opposition to our policy, that started their own first gen monte website group/club and welcomed these types of posts. That site lasted maybe a year or so and then failed. Yes, as a car group we sometimes, in fun, get off topic but in a friendly manner but we always come back to our Monte's as our main reason for being here. Many solid friendships have been cemented here. The majority of the people here don't even know the political or religion beliefs of our friends here but we do know a lot about other members Monte's and other things they own (like blue ovals). It is easier to keep things civil here. We thank you for your understanding. rob 2 4 Quote

First and foremost, this is a car club website, not a normal social media site. Just to clarify something Rob mentioned, before yesterday the statement had read something to the effect of: Remember, Politics and religion can be sensitive subjects. A member asked me earlier in the morning if those topics were banned, as there were a couple of posts on politics and I read the statement to him directly from the site, and said it doesn't prohibit it, but obviously it can (and did) start to take a turn for the worse. He said, OK, thx. As the day went on, it did start to go off track (big surprise there) so I called Rob when some people posted they wanted the thread killed (though one of their prior comments wasn't exactly helping either). Rob thought it was always a banned subject, but after reading the description that was in place, realized it wasn't a hard, off limits subject. We decided to correct it, and I adjusted it on the fly while we were on the phone, it now reads: "However, please no politics or religion, as they are sensitive topics and can get out of hand quickly..." 1 5 Quote

Glen Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Yep, good natured debate and the busting of chops is one thing, but when it’s perceived as too personal or overly confrontational or hostile, it needs to be reeled in. In theory, everyone should understand and practice such moderation, but that’s an unrealistic goal. Some people have thinner skin than others. Others engage mouth (or keyboard) without much thought One must also take into consideration that what’s written in print doesn’t always accurately convey complete meaning as it lacks tone, inflection, sarcasm, body language etc as it would during verbal conversation; interpretation varies greatly depending on several factors. You can’t expect every member of a group to have the same values, let alone to behave or react identically to the same things - that’s impossible… unless of course FGMCC decides to seek “cult” status. Depending on the initiation process, it might be a tough sell. Keep me posted if the club decides to seek that route 😂 4 Quote

My left hand is the only one with fingers 🤞 😂 I too was born without fingers, the only real difference, is that would describe my right hand, only have a thumb 👍 on that hand and you guessed it, lol I'm right handed !!! 😂 😂 LET'S MAKE A TRUCE, WE CAN KEEP WHAT WE HAVE... I really need the few digits that I do have. Lol 1 6 Quote
