jft69z Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Got a new project in the shop. Going to be a full re-wire with an AAW harness, Dakota Digital RTX, LED Head & Tail lights, plus whatever else pops up along the way. If there's any interest in the D/D & AAW install, I'll put some pictures up along the way. If not, I'll just keep working, lol. (It's a member's car, John P.) 8 Quote

There's the 2 position rocker switch, plus the 'optional' rheostat for dimming the dash lighting if wanted. The factory headlight switch (rotary part) will no longer work to adjust the gauge lighting. Couple suggestions. First, don't buy the $35 one from D/D. I have a good alternative from Amazon for around $8 for two. A gentleman from D/D tech told me it was a 10K ohm pot, so I found these instead: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071X4DKV7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Next, I mount those parts up in the top of the ashtray assembly. You're not going to be using them much, they're out of the way, and you don't have to drill holes under your dash someplace else. Just a thought. --------------------------------------------- I noticed something else when looking thru the AAW harness instructions today. AAW doesn't support the old factory ammeter (if using a factory gauge pod setup) for safety reasons. Way back when, an alternative used to be the 'Shift Works' replacement voltmeter that went in place of the original gauge. At the time I needed one, they were out of stock/unavailable, which ultimately led me to the D/D complete setup instead. Well, it looks like AAW is offering their own replacement voltmeter gauges now. 1970 & 1971-72 versions are available (70 is green, 71-72 is white lettering) under part numbers: 510869 - 1970 and 510870 - 1971-72. (Doesn't look like Summit carries them currently). They also have the instruction sheets available here (pretty much the same for both): 1970 instructions 1971-72 instructions Looks like Shift Works still offers them, but a little different gauge face. Summit appears to have those in stock , cheaper than direct from SW: https://shiftworks.com/products/1970-72-chevelle-monte-carlo-el-camino-voltmeter?variant=2469047631893 - Instruction sheets are available on this page too) https://www.summitracing.com/parts/siw-s535-w?srsltid=AfmBOordmmIpNBpBZ5qs0y0QY1xyNSFVLzUWZUvXregbT_v59Jx0fY2a https://www.summitracing.com/parts/siw-s535-g?rrec=true 5 Quote
