I never got the reasoning behind those pouting kids at car shows.

It's because there's no T.V./video games in the cars.....

Do I feel good about this, absolutely not. I was trying to ask all the right questions and find someone who really wanted to be the next caretaker. At the end of the day, even though I am sad to see it for sale right away, he did pay for the Monte and its his to do whatever he wants to do.

I mainly feel bad for Willie who really wanted this Monte.

I bought this car with intentions to keep long term. It has always been a dream car of mine. So much so that I had a car and a donor to start the process of having one done myself. Vaughn, me and you have had several discussions. I really cleared the bank on this one. I spent more than I could afford to. I’ve been trying to sell some of my other cars to keep a comfortable cash flow. I still want to keep this car, and there’s a very good chance I still will. I just need a car to sell and I will be comfortable again. My back has been against the wall with finances as of recently and it forced me try and sell the convertible. In all likelihood I will eat the $1,000 that I paid to Mecum and end up keeping it.

I get it Tyler. I sux when life gets in the way of our plans. As much as I love my cars when it’s financially time to let them go, they're gone.

Thats life sometimes, at least you realized when the hole was waist deep it was time to stop digging so you could still get out. Sad news for sure but take lots of pictures because you have actually owned one

I was able to work things out, so I will be keeping the car. My son took his senior photos in it. She’s here to stay. IMG_4513.thumb.jpeg.1d241662e450f47bd61bb561c7411f58.jpegIMG_4512.thumb.jpeg.29d56003e84de3da89362f193e139378.jpegIMG_4509.thumb.jpeg.3fea9a0c3e10c438e9f43c1275afac47.jpeg

Good for you.  I’m happy it all worked out, with the Monte anyway, as I’m sure other sacrifices were made.

I might be late to this conversation, and I own the yellow 72 Ragtop in Colorado. If that 70 turquoise convertible is available, I'd jump on it. I've lusted for that for years. Here's the story ...I did drawings, and some preliminary engineering in 1987. I then in 2006, I found "mine" out in Fairfield, Calif. It was green throughout, cutup and welded using a red 69 Skylark ...and drivable. The guy I bought it from said he paid two guys from North Carolina to fly out and do the conversion in his garage. He said they did it in a week. Said it was their "number8". He would not give me any names. (I later found " two crazy guys named Ed and Eddy from NC" written in the inner left quarter panel when I got it home.) I flew out, drove it around the block, gave him some cash and drove it home to Colorado. Then it took 4 years to finish it, and it gets driven! You don't need a big block ...mine has a 350/4BBL /Tweeked AT/2.73 gears. You pull up anywhere in one of these and it says; "I have arrived". Hotchkiss suspension pieces, Z-28 steering box and the AT gets used like a manual in the Colo. mountains. I even did a run down the famous Mile-High Bandimere speedway last August before they sadly closed forever. Whatever you do, get the AC working, and put power window in, too. If it doesn't have 'em, put 'em in.

Dave!

I bet it takes a lot of ambition(insert word here____________),to cut up a nice car ,and make it a convertible. I for sure couldn't do it ,but looking at the end result it looks Great!

These fotos look a bit familiar!  Hey, Jeff!!!!   Good to see you're still out there!!! Hope all is well?  So, you're checking the FGMCC website ...lookin' for a ragtop?   Did I miss -or more likely- forget any part of the story?  Hard to believe it is going to be 19 years on the 8th of June.
