Marks71 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 This was in my latest Hemmings Motor News auction results. It belonged to a buddy who took it up to Mecum Monterey. It hammered for 200k. He got 180 and the buyer paid 210. Previously owned by Paul Walker. Crazy 6 Quote

DragCat Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Do you think it being Paul Walkers added to the price? That wouldn't have mattered to me. But I did see a gorgeous 69 Z28 crossram intake hammer for 160 or 180 5 Quote

Sooner or later people will not know who Paul Walker was . And you would be looking at over 100k to restore it. As I am sure Paul had planned to do. 7 Quote

I agree with you guys but if those 2 buyers have that much money to burn, doesn't matter to them. They just wanted that car!! Didn't matter the hammer price, they just wanted it!!!!!! Wish i had that money to burn!!! lol 7 Quote

Roger Rodas, the driver of the Porsche they were killed in was partnered with Paul to do a restoration. The car was accompanied with some paperwork that had Paul’s signature. Not sure about Roger though. The person who bought it loved the patina and had no plans to restore it. It seams “patina” got real popular when paint jobs got insanely expensive. Remember Earl Scheib back in the 60s? “I’ll paint any car for $29.95” he also offered $10.00 free body work. 5 Quote
Scott S. Posted January 16 Posted January 16 The wrecked Grand National that Vin Diesel drove got about $ 100,000.00 the last time it sold, and Mel Gibson's Falcon from Mad Max is valued in the high 6 figures..... It's just a matter of how badly someone wants a little piece of history. 5 Quote

I can't help but wonder how the next generation will feel about beat up wrecked or just old movie vehicles, Will they see the same values that some individuals of our generation see. Most of our vehicles will out live us, regardless of what or who's collection they reside in, eventually the holders of those collections will pass and these vehicles will still be there for the next owner. Just a passing though 😎 However one might say, "who cares, I'll be dead and gone anyway" 😂 5 Quote
Blake350 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 i don't know... it sounds nice but that with 200k or so to burn, that would restore a nice group of montes ,which I personally would enjoy alot more... as one fellow member says, "just my 2 cents!" 6 1 Quote
Blake350 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 And as to patina ,a few months back the cover of Hagerty's "Drivers Club" magazine titled "the patina issue" very enjoyable article there's something to be said about a solid old machine that wears her mileage well... 4 Quote
kpcsgasp Posted January 16 Posted January 16 To pay THAT much of a premium shows the buyer had a lot of dollars but not much sense. just my 2 cents😬 5 Quote

Look at it this way, a Chevelle guy may feel Monteholics pay way too much for our beloved Monte's or it may be hard for us to figure out why blue oval fans pay what they may pay for a Ferd. I say to each their own. rob 4 Quote

No argument on that here. Risky and maybe foolish. That is kind of like trying to assess value on a car for family sentimental reasons. Those reasons are special to you and maybe your family members but it doesn't add value to everyone. rob 2 Quote

Michael Boyte Posted January 18 Posted January 18 OK.. OK.. LOOK OUT !!! Here comes the Beverly Hillbillies 3 Oldsmobile trucks, they are headed to Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale this year . They had better hurry up and sale these, most Gen Z have no idea who or what a Beverly Hillbilly is or was, only our generation has a clue. Actually the Shriners have quite a few of these jalopies and they drive them in the parades, I would expect they would be much more affordable and I would expect the resale would draw more people. I would expect the next generation to care less about owning an old jalopy. 2 Quote

70white402 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Steve mcqueen’s 917,pwned by Jerry Seinfeld just bid to 25,000,000 at mecum. Seinfeld owning it doesn’t add much value, I think. Most famous, highest selling Porsche ever. 3 Quote
