Mike S Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Any recommendations for a cover? There are some days when the car will need to be outside of its garage. I’m looking for something that could handle a bit of rain and possibly snow. Quote
502ci Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I posted this question maybe 6 months ago. I have had CoverCraft and Noah (whoever makes that) which were good. I ended up buying a Sealskin. Best cover I have had so far. Breathes but keeps the rain 100% off the car. I use it on my 01 Monte that unfortunately sits outside right now. 2 Quote
Montemedic Posted January 22 Posted January 22 California Car Cover makes the “Noah” cover. Mine is 15 plus years old and still looks and functions like new. I use it indoors when my Monte is stored in the garage, outside on my driveway or the Showfield overnight at Carlisle. It’s pricy, but it has held up very well and is great investment for your car and paint. I know other Club members that have and use this cover too. I can attest to this manufacturer and model of car cover. There are other brands out there. Covercraft is another reputable manufacturer. See what best fits your needs and budget. 3 Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I don't have a cover for mine it seldom sits outside. I thought about one for shows where it sits outside overnight for dust or rain. My brother has 2 for his roadster one covers only drivers compartment and the other covers entire car. Both California car covers and are very good. 2 Quote
Marks71 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 The Noah cover is not in California Car Covers line up anymore. I’ve always used their covers. Currently have 3. They’ve got 12 types of materials to choose from, so you’ll find what fits your needs. What you need will be in the $500 range though. I’ve got their Dust Force cover for my Monte, but it’s not meant for exterior use on a regular basis (no rain or snow protection). I think I paid close to $400. After having to replace the side mirror on my 69 Camaro because the cover pull so tight against it that the ball pivot got so loose it wouldn’t stay adjusted I ordered mirror pockets for the Monte and the Camaro. Because the company wouldn’t put them on without a location mark, I had a lady in town who used to make boat covers sew them on. 2 Quote

Mike S Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Thanks everyone for the replies. I searched “car cover” before posting but didn’t come up with anything. Quote
Scott S. Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I like the one I found on Amazon.... the "large car (210") version" It was fairly reasonable priced, light, and keeps the rain/snow off as long as it doesn't get a few days to sit and soak in. I tried one of those custom fitted ones that cost twice as much. But it was tissue paper by the second year. This one's on it's third and still holding up. 3 Quote
Marks71 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 That appears to fit really nice. Looks like it was made for the car. 1 Quote
Scott S. Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I was impressed considering it's a "universal" fit.... But I do recommend the straps on a windy day. Not that it'll pull off, it just likes to balloon a lot. 1 Quote
willie Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I have had the "Noah" California Car Cover that i got for my GN, and had it since i bought her. I have had it washed twice and it still looks and feels like brand new! Its been 27 years now. On another note its been stated that CCC doesn't make that cover anymore. So for the Monte i bought an outside cover for her. It works ok and i noticed some water on the car. Not dripping water just heavy condensation. Not saying the cover is bad just didn't expect water on the car. Since then i purchased 2 used "Noah" covers (because i liked them so much) to use on my Montes when they are inside or transporting them to shows. Very happy with these covers. Just for further info, the used covers i bought were for an "A" body Chevelle. So a Chevelle cover will fit our Montes. Also the mirrors were not cut out. 4 Quote
714024SPEED Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I have used seal skin not sure what they call it but the top of the line for the past couple of years on my 70 GTO,and my 63 Catalina Convertible that has no rear window in it, that's another story for another time but am very happy with them the cars sit outside all year long and not a drop of water in the convertible even in heavy rain and snow 3 Quote

I hate to say but come this time next year, The Monte will be sitting outside, so I can work on other projects. It might get shuffled over to the wife's side, since she doesn't go to work everyday now. If I'm working on her project car, then I'm good. If I'm working on mine, out goes the Monte! I might have an inside storage space for it come next winter. I have a she shed that I need to enclose the rest of it. Might be a summer/ fall project. Scott , I'm going to look up that cover. Looks good! Quote

Could be condensation, or just heavy rain that soaked through, but I've noticed that occasionally too. Quote

Looks good! Montelishi doesn't have a garage to stay in over the winters.... So when I "wrap" her up for the season, I start with a sheet of poly, then the 1 1/2" upholstery foam pads, then the cover. Those pads have been a lifesaver during spring hailstorms too !! Quote
cbolt Posted January 23 Posted January 23 i have tried many different car covers and have yet to find one that will protect a vehicle outdoors for more than a month or two. Looking at those sealskin ones, I may have to give that one a shot. All the others have developed leaks fairly quickly. 1 Quote

Hey Scott, it might of been the cold metal turning warmer the following day, creating the wetness on the car. As my cars are inside something, most of the time. Quote
Scott S. Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Are you suggesting that Monte Carlos "perspire" ??? 1 1 Quote
