I just installed a refurbished tilt steering column in my 72 Monte. It came with a pre-installed turn signal switch, canceling cam and lock plate. I put power to the car and tested the signals. Hazards work fine. Brake lights are fine. Left signal flashes all 4 corners, right signal flashes right rear and both front signals. Any ideas what the issue could be?

 Any help appreciated!

Hi Paul,

I would start by replacing the turn signal relay in the fuse box under the dash. (the thing that makes the "clicking" sound) lol

Top left corner of the photo.

It could be that it's old and an internal connection may have shorted.

It's usually a good place to start.

The one on fuse block is for 4 way flashers the one for turn signals is located under dash somewhere.  It kinda sounds like a grounding issue somewhere.

This is a picture of the steering column on my 71 Monte.

I believe, on my 71, the flasher in the fuse box is for the 4 WAY emergency flashers, while the Turn signal flasher is attached to the steering column on the left side, so we can't see it in this picture. I will look for more pictures.

Can anyone verify what I wrote about the 4 WAY vs T/S Flasher location???

The 4 WAY flasher can handle all 6 flasher bulbs where the T/S can only handle 3. 1 in each front and 2 in each rear so they are different.

YES !!!

My bad, it hangs from a wiring harness above the fusebox on Montelishi.

If it was a grounding issue, would the flashers work at all ?

Check any grounds that you disconnected or reconnected or possibly disturbed. These type of issues are almost always result from a poor ground someplace.

Double check the ground strap from the headlight switch to the dash frame. A poor connection there will cause all sorts of gremlins.
