Glen Posted February 13 Posted February 13 This one was listed on today’s Barn Finds email. Weird color combo (Tuxedo Black/Green) and a lotta comments by the “pros” regarding mileage claim. Interestingly it has a “Chassis Broadcast Copy” (Canadian built, right?) but cowl tag shows “FL” (Flint built, right?). At least DragCat doesn’t get credit for finding it and posting it here. That honor goes to yours truly 😂 https://barnfinds.com/27k-original-miles-1970-chevrolet-monte-carlo/ 4 3 Quote
Canuck Posted February 13 Posted February 13 That chassis broadcast copy isn’t a Canadian document. Definitely built in Flint so there won’t be s build sheet. The mileage is a tough call. The seat has a fair amount of wear and the silver is worn off the steering wheel. There’s some non factory wiring under the hood and some other non-factory items that make it harder to determine if it is 27,000 or 127,000. It clearly wasn’t stored well which may be why the seat is rough. Driving it may tell the story. Low mileage original cars have a specific feel. As for the “pros” with their comments, I had to deal with so much negativity from people when I was selling the 11,000 mile 72 I had. If you saw it in person and drove it, you just know it wasn’t 111,000 but people didn’t want to believe it was true. Those “pros” weren’t buyers anyway but still provided unnecessary comments. 6 Quote
Leghome Posted February 13 Posted February 13 That interior looks exactly like my 70 I orderded Sept 20, 1969 oh the memories that brings back 2 Quote
Marks71 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 They mentioned examining the build sheet. Must have it confused with the broadcast copy, or maybe even the window sticker. 2 Quote
Scott S. Posted February 13 Posted February 13 WOW !! Reading that was like reading a prepared statement from a government agency..... Need a lot more pictures to make a realistic evaluation, but when I was looking and found Montelishi, there were several cars that had received a new black paint job while the interior was overlooked. I guess it it looks good on the outside, someone will take it. 1 Quote
420ponies Posted February 13 Posted February 13 What did you think about the '66 Caprice they are trying to sell? "engine numbers state it's a 390 hp, 427 " . I didn't see anything that looks like a 390 hp 427 (engine pad). 1 Quote

I didn't see anything that looks like a 390 hp 427 (engine pad). I liked that car. But they’d need to repair the AC. I also don’t like that they butchered the package tray for speakers, and the passenger kick panel has a horribly fabricated patch on it, like they’re trying to cover a hole where an aftermarket speaker once resided. If you watch the videos, dude conveniently glossed over showing if the power seat worked or not. Overall, I thought it was a pretty cool car, although I’d prefer it with the original 396. 1 Quote
willie Posted February 14 Posted February 14 This 66 looks ok minus all its faults but i am not sure its a true 427? As I have been on a 427 Impala SS kick for a little while. Very hard car to find. I did however find that a 68 Impala SS has 3 scoops on the hood. But the 67 Impala SS has 3 gills on each front fender. I happen to like this one better, but still looking. Maybe because it is a Caprise rather than an Impala that she doesn't have any distinctive scoops? I am not sure? They are cool cars in my book. 2 Quote

I did look into a 96 Impala recently Mark. I know where there is a 96 with 6000 or so miles on it. Paperwork to prove it. I have seen it in person. Several times. I don’t own it but a person who has my last name does. 3 Quote

Thanks Dennis, the one I was looking at was 1000+ HP 🤣 I did share with Glen for a possible Mongo ride Willie, if they had a 2 door version I would have probably bought one back then . Once you mentioned CO I got the hint 2 Quote
willie Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Mark he still didn't confirm, maybe a trip to CO is necessary!!! lol 1 Quote
Dtret Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Yes. CO. lol. My brother was with the original owner when he bought it new. He had plenty of money so it was rarely driven. When he passed it was willed( sort of) to my brother. He had to pay the estate for it. And it has been sitting in my brothers garage for probably the last 10-15 years, again rarely driven. One of the tires is a little low but my brother doesn’t want to contaminate the original 1996 air in the tires with new air. ( lol. Jk). But you get the just of it. I thought I had a picture of it when he pulled it out a couple years ago to wash it and drive it a bit. But I can’t find it. Sorry. 3 Quote

Aaron, You could have contacted me to verify the mileage. I would have shared pics and also the paperwork proving I was the second registered owner. I bought the car with 8,801 original miles on it and drove it to a little over 11,000 miles. I documented the odometer along with the dates In pictures. Funny, it turned over to 10,000 miles right in front of the Dairy Queen on Sunday Cruise Night! I loved that car, but selling it helped me get to my ultimate SS. You're absolutely correct: "Pros" will always try to find something wrong. Their loss! BIG WIN for the new buyer! 1 Quote
