Well I bit the bullet and sprung for the gauge cluster. Mainly because I couldn't find the fuel gauge for the idiot light cluster anywhere.  It should be in in the next few days. I sure hope it's as easy as people are telling me.

That's the consensus... one guy on UTUBE mounted it to the back of the cluster so he didnt have to extend wires, but he even said it crowded the area behind the cluster

Mine went fairly easy, However I had to get an adapter for the oil pressure sensor. Mounted the modules on top of the glove box.

I mounted my D/D module to the HVAC box with velcro strips so I could remove it quickly if needed (second yellow circle from the right). High & tight, out of the way from getting kicked, but easily available.

I also mounted the programming rocker switch and the dimmer rheostat in the ash tray housing.

Is the dimmer necessary ?

You may recall from our phone conversation the other day, I mentioned the factory headlight switch will no longer dim the dash display with the D/D gauges. It can be done with the D/D thru the programming menu, but is a little cumbersome.

They will sell you a $35 rheostat to hook up to the module to adjust it easily, or you can get the ones from Amazon I emailed you for $7 for a pair of them.

I mean are they necessary. I usually don't dim the dash lights on anything.

Not necessary, if you set it & forget it.

I just add them since it's all apart, and is easier for people to adjust it when needed vs going in thru the programming.

Well I got it yesterday. Ordered it Sunday and got it on Tuesday.. I love SUMMIT.  Got it mounted, got the controller mounted, now to find the time to wire it and install it.....

ONE QUESTION so far.

Turn signals. Maybe I didn't read it correctly. Says there is two ways to wire them, one being directly to the factory original wires, not sure of the second.... am I reading it wrong ? Last night was a bit if a strong night.

They provide you 4 separate LEDs to use if you want to utilize the factory locations on the dash for the Turn Signals, High Beam, and Brake indications.

The other option is to wire the vehicle harness points to the D/D module, where those indications will show up on the D/D display instead.

Pretty much a matter of personal preference.

So.... the Turn signals wires in the car harness have 2 wires each for Right and Left. They are for front and rear. Would I hook them both up ?... this sounds like a stupid question now that I'm asking it... of course I would hook them both up or the front or rear wouldn't work...🤣

If you're picking your signal from the original dash gauge connector (that plugged into the old circuit board), the light blue & dark blue wires go to L.H and R.H front indicators and marker lamps. They put both wires together at the connector.

Yep, thank you. It was a stupid as I about it..

Do you recommend wiring into those or going through the module.

It your choice.  If you want the indications in the stock locations, use the LEDS, or go thru the module.

Keep in mind, the Brake light is different, as the ground is switched.

I guess the chevelle is the same as our Montes as most of everything else wiring wise is

When I do the DD swap I'm strongly thinking about using one of these connectors if I don't run all new wire from the fusebox.

That's a pretty expensive connector, especially considering they use separate terminals to go into it. For that price, I would expect 2 distinct mating connectors.

I'll typically re-use connectors off old harnesses, or pick from the Packard 56 kits I have here on hand.

Maybe something like this will work:

or this:

Get a couple of them to suit your needs, and still be about $65 dollars ahead.

Here's an 8 pin from ebay, with free shipping, not a bad deal either:

Agreed that it's expensive, the only advantage is if somebody wants to keep their harness intact.

I like Packard 56, I just need a better crimping die.

Ahhh...now I see how that connector works, after looking at the rest of the pictures, thx! (my brain is a little scrambled this week, bad cold, 104 fever last night)

Still expensive, but serves a purpose...learn something new every day here 🙂.

This picture was the important one:
