Does anyone know the weight of a 71 Monte Hood?

Posted

I weighed mine maybe 15 years ago but I am pretty sure it was 80lbs.

Heavy and bulky, your going to need at least one other person maybe 2 to remove and install.  Don't know exact weight but I'd around 80 or so is probably close. I lifted mine when it standing on end to move it around in garage.

I would swear that they weigh more than that. But 80 pounds is pretty heavy with your arms stretched as far as the can and your the only one carrying it about a thousand feet. I just did it Friday. lol.

It's not the weight, it's a dinner table for a car hood! Yes, 2 people (same height) is good, and not that hard to maneuver. A third person at the front is always good if you have a volunteer. I've seen people use a engine hoist and straps, not to my liking. You have to remember it's 6'3" in length!

I’m not planning on taking it off. Trying to figure a way to maybe install gas struts. Need the weight to proceed with a purchase of the struts.

Interesting proposal......

Not worried about them failing while you're under the hood ????

Once I know the weight then I will research the next steps.

Eddie Motorsports is the place for the gas struts in my case. They sent me my first set and they failed, but customer service was above and beyond. New set even better. Never seen hood " pop" like it does now.👍👍

I'll try to weigh my spare hood but not sure I'll be able to properly

Yeah......

It's kinda hard to see the scale dial while holding 30 sq ft of sheet metal. ;)

Well I tried to weigh it but was unsuccessful it's to big and bulkey especially where I have it in garage.  If I could hangout it out and lay it on it's side then maybe but not able to do that at this time.

Hey Carl,

If you were in on the "5 year letter" thread, there's a video of someone under the hood of a newer Camaro when the cat jumps up on the hood and brings it down on him.

Thought it kind of worked in this thread. ;)

Balance the hood on your head and step on a scale. Boom!   Problem solved.
