Chris shipley Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I know they been out for our Montes. Just curious how much popularity they become. If alot of you have installed them. Quote
Dtret Posted March 9 Posted March 9 They have bed out for a while. I’m not a big fan of the long hood with the chevelle short cowl. To me it doesn’t proportionally look right. 3 Quote
ouch Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I might have to get one. Just put in stroker LS with high rise intake and carb. Stroker pan just touches frame so i have to raise engine. I have no experience with any fiberglass hoods. This is the one i was looking at from US Body Fiberglass. https://usbody.com/product/1970-1972-chevy-chevrolet-monte-carlo-fiberglass-hood-2-cowl-induction-style-bolt-on-heavy-duty/ . I like the look personally. I'll be following to see recommendations. 4 Quote

MC-71 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 They have been making those hoods for years. I always read good reviews on the Monte hood and the 2” cowl is perfect. 2 Quote

Blackhawk Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I'm running the JEGS branded steel cowl induction hood, it comes in a CHL box. It fit pretty well, but it rubs the safety bolts that catch the hinge in an accident. I had to go through a few until I got one that could be used without too much damage. Their packaging doesn't protect the cowl very well. 3 Quote

ouch Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I have the thinnest pan available for a stroker. It's slightly deeper than regular Muscle car pan. Quote

For my own knowledge because I no nothing about LS and or Strokers why ? When you say touch the frame do you mean crossmember? Again, I removed an original 454 and swapped in a GM 502 crate. The only thing I need to change was the oil pan for fitment. Quote
ouch Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Sorry for the delay. Yes when you stroke a motor you need a deeper shallow section of the oil pan. This gives clearance for the longer stroke of the crank. And yes my oil pan was touching my crossmember. If I had the original 6.2liter crank they make a shallower thin section pan I could have bought. I just fixed that issue. I had wrong mounts. I knew I needed tall and narrow mounts but ordered wrong kit with adapter plates and short and wide mounts by mistake. Now all good with frame clearance but hood is going to be close. Will be putting on carb and air cleaner soon. Hood will be off for a while longer while waiting for new hinges. 1 Quote
DragCat Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Good news 🤘glad you got it figured out. The attached is from a 70 on BAT that just sold, just fyi. I am a fan of the cowl hoods, just with the right look ( and yes everyones eyeball appreciation is different)🤣 Quote
ouch Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Thanks. Mounts were stopping all real progress. Whats BAT? 1 Quote
