MC Firstcar Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Hey everyone, I’m going to replace my tires (12 yrs old but still look new) before I head to the Somerset Meet and currently have 14 inch keystones on it that replaced my 15 inch keystones that I put on the car when I bought it in 1977. I’ve got a complete set of 15 by 8 refurbished rally wheels that I bought 10 years ago but have decided that it just wouldn’t be “my car” without keystones. Yes the car should have 15 inch wheels on it, but…Anyway, my car is stock with a 350, so what are the pros and cons of keeping my 14 inch wheels on it? Thanks Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 If your happy the way it looks than go with it, it's your car not anyone else's. I would think the 14s would look a little small but but I don't know. I have always liked keystone wheels. 4 Quote

Dtret Posted March 9 Posted March 9 It not going to hurt anything. It will throw off the speedometer by , in essence, changing the gear ratio. But if you have had the 14’s on it you already compensated. 3 Quote
Scott S. Posted March 9 Posted March 9 On the plus side, 14" tires have a bigger variety of makes to choose from. And they will allow you to get more rubber in the wheel wells. The only real downside I can think of is the "flex" in the sidewall. If you choose to use a taller tire, the sidewalls will have more roll in cornering. 2 Quote

I bought a 71 international scout a few months after I bought this car so I’ve always baby’d my Monte when driving it so I figure the only cornering flex I will need would be to keep up with the guys at the meet, going through those hills and curves in Kentucky😜 1 Quote
