Marks71 Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Glad you were able to post some photos Bob. No worries about what stage your Monte is in. Most of us have been there, either with our Montes or another model. Just keep plugging along and you’ll get there. This is the point when being a member is most valuable. There is a whole heck of a lot of info here to help you along. 4 Quote

Dtret Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Welcome Bob. Don’t worry about the condition of the car for your post. A lot of us have started with worse and honestly yours doesn’t look too bad. Good luck and keep posting. One person can’t answer every question but the collective group can. Someone has been there and done that. 1 Quote
Bob B Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 Well wow thanks! You guys are super nice. Spoke with Joe yesterday on the phone and he was a super guy! The short story is I bought the car in 2019 from a young man that didn't know a lot about its history. He did the primer on the hood and the previous owner did the rest of the primer on the body. Before that it was a barn car, I guess. But the primer has to be done over at this point. The previous owner had rewired it and put the 383 in it to run it at a track in Independence, MO. He had the carb tuned for race fuel which took me a very long time and reading to adjust the carb for regular 91 octane. As I'm sure you folks can imagine there's many details. Ronald, right now I want to have kind of a balance. I want it to be pretty much stock. It's got 50's in the back and 60's in the front. But I think when I get the funds up to par, I still want it to be quick. I'm not a racer type. But I'd like it to at least be as fast as the Challenger Scat Pack I have. Then I'll sell the Challenger.....LOL,we have an old farm truck we drive so we can get groceries and take the dogs to the vet. The 383 that in it is not impressive and I've been fighting a trans leak. So, it'll all go. Then the body work. The wiring for the dash lights has been my latest battle. I bought a new light switch after reading an article here, which prompted me to join. This place has a ton of onfo!!! My wife loves the Monte. Very fond of it hands down. I taught my late daughter how to drive in that Monte so I won't be getting rid of it. So, I have my work cut out for me. Thanks for all the kind welcomes!!! Bob 8 Quote
Glen Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Welcome Bob! As others have already said, this is a pretty cool group with a lot of knowledge. 3 Quote
420ponies Posted March 24 Posted March 24 If that wiring is a mess, I'd start with a new harness. Joe T has a good source for that. That way if you want different things in it ( H.E.I ignition, bluetooth, fuel injection) they can add to the harness. It also updates the fuse block . That way,no surprises on the electrical side. I still have my original harness in mine and I have no issues as of now with it. Next upgrade is Fuel injection (Holley Sniper) ,which I have a power block to add into the harness. 1 1 Quote
