Rob Peters Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Sorry to hear that Dennis. Coming through the walls or in a basement door? I hope there isn't too much damage. rob 1 Quote
420ponies Posted April 5 Posted April 5 I can remember helping a friend with water damage from a rain storm here, we worked 16 hrs to get everything squared away. It was a mess, finished basement, 3" to 4" of water, after that, we had to cut all the drywall out .Finally the insurance company came and put it all back to normal. Found out that the downspout drainage pipes were connected to the basement and had backed up from the rush of water through the downspout's. We had all that separated so no water could come back through the basement again. Yeah,$500,000 house built that way? Dennis, I sure do hope you have insurance on your property, and I hope you didn't lose anything valuable family wise, memories... I hope you're doing ok. 1 Quote

willie Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Dennis i also hope its not to bad down there. Had that happen in my house from a washing machine feed hose. It burst when no one was home. Now they shut the valve every time they are done with the washing!! Good Luck!!! 3 Quote
Glen Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Overhead sewers, drain tiles and ejector pump here. Best system ever. Still had minor seepage years ago due to cracks in the foundation. Had that repaired (in 2 spots) and been good since. But to Willie’s point/story… I have a water sensor tied into my home alarm. I’ve attached it to a leg on the slop sink closest to the floor drain which is close enough for it to detect water from a leaky washer, overflowing slop sink or water heater that might give up the ghost. Works like a charm as discovered when sink overflowed when a towel blocked the drain. 4 Quote
RON T Posted April 5 Posted April 5 It’s literally been raining here 2 full days , central Ky. More rain today, tonight and tomorrow. All of Ky is a lake. As I’m sure it is in many other states. Not counting the tornadoes!. Here are a couple pictures from east Ky where I grew up in Van Lear and of Paintsville lake where I go camping. Also a radar screen shot of what’s on the way thru here today.. I’ve lived here all my life and never before seen the whole state flooded… I think I should mention, we built the house on a knowl here so we are good.. plus , crawl space sump pump doing a good job.. we have the stoner creek on one side and the Hinson creek on the back side but we are up high. 1 7 Quote
Dtret Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Still raining 2-3 inches coming today. Ugh. I believe it came through the doors. It never got over an inch deep because of the drain in the floor. No real damage because most everything is on shelves or wheels. Keep in mind that I didn’t move everything so the could be some damage to furniture. But the glass half full guy that I am, I now have really clean floors. lol. Dry as a bone this morning when I walked down there. Thanks for the thoughts. A lot of people are going to be in a lot worse shape than I was so prayers out to them. 6 Quote

Glen Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Hopefully this brings a little levity to the current state of affairs… A couple years ago my hot water tank was starting to leak and my daughter wanted to know if it was safe for her to do laundry while the wife and I went out for brunch with friends. I told her just keep an eye on it and if it looks like the leak is getting any worse to call me immediately and let me know. I told her it should be fine for one more day as I had a buddy coming over the next day to install a new tank. A couple of bloody Mary’s into brunch, my daughter is frantically texting that “Dad, there’s water running everywhere”!!!! I asked her to send me a picture and this is what I got… (yeah, kiddo definitely got my sense of humor 🤣😂) PS - your Eurythmics reference did not escape me Chris 2 7 Quote

Scott S. Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Sorry to hear about your basement Dennis, seems this is becoming something of a regular occurrence these days. But having worked in fire suppression for about 35 years, I'd still take flood damage over a fire any day. At least there's still something to save. 2 Quote
