patman Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Guys, what’s the actual differences between 1970 and 1971-72 front fenders? I used to know but it’s been about 10-12 years since restoring my last Monte and I can’t quite remember. I’m thinking it has to do with the way the headlight bezel mounts, but it’s all a bit foggy. Getting old sucks! 😆 Quote
overdrive Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Yes, the extension alignment pins are a little different and the area where the 2 bolts attach the fender to the core support is different. That area is flat on a '70 and there's a step between the 2 bolts after '70. Dan 1 1 Quote
Canuck Posted April 6 Posted April 6 It is detailed on this page here https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/differences/ 2 1 Quote
Jared Richey Posted April 7 Posted April 7 The largest difference is not the fenders its the headlight location. The 70 sits in closer together. 71 72 are spread more. 1 Quote
Rob Peters Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Jared is mostly correct but Aaron (Canuck) is more correct. Where Jared is correct is the outward appearance is the same and a 70 fender can be made to work on a 71/72 Monte just as a 71/72 fender can be adapted to be used on a 70. Where Aaron is correct there is a difference where these fenders mount onto the core support and where the headlight bezel mounts to the fender. These are the areas that have to be altered. See the link from Aaron where it shows the photo of the difference between the two fenders. rob 1 Quote
