DragCat Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Just in case anyone is interested. I found it interesting, a little over 4 minutes in they were drilling the wheels to put screws in. Some noticed my rear wheels at Carlisle had screw holes in them. back in the day that's what they used to do to keep the tires from slipping on the rims. 8 Quote
DragCat Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 Had to laugh, was watching part 4 last nite....Finnegan and crew had been having tech issues since the start 🙃 Now the funny part, he mentioned he was behind a VW in points....The reason I laughed is that's drag racing. The furthest I ever got was round 4, in the Yukon, and lost to a Dodge Omni. For this who don't know what an Omni is pic below 🤣 Tony, the owner, super nice guy, helped me and gave me advice when I first started drag racing. Come to find out his cousin fixed my tune in the Monte. Anyway I was chasing him ( obviously a slower car) and pretty much crossed the finish line at the same time. So after the race we were talking, he was laughing saying he was gonna tap the brakes but saw I was at his door, I laughed because I was gonna hit my brakes but didn't think I'd pass him so I didn't. We both "broke out" (went faster than we said we would) but his was less so he won. Good times 🤘 7 Quote
Dtret Posted April 13 Posted April 13 That’s not drag racing. That’s just playing with a clock. When the flag drops, the first one to the end wins. That’s drag racing. IMHO. 5 1 Quote

And yea I''d rather run 1/4 but it's not always an option. 4 Quote

You’re a racer so that’s how it is, it takes a lot of skill and practice to run the light right so you don’t breakout and the times have to be right. But I don’t think it’s right to see John Force in his funny car racing the Omni and the Omni wins. Like I said IMHO. 1 Quote

420ponies Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Heads -up racing is a 1 and done deal. That class is the least toughest because you know how fast your car is, and sometimes a better reaction time on the tree is the winner (holeshot). E.T. (Elasped Time) ,or Bracket racing is the toughest because you run on an E.T. of your car. When I race, I always go full out on my fastest run (dial -in),that way if I lose, I know I'm doing the very best I can. Dennis, I've never seen an Omni go 338 mph in 1,000 ft ! 4 Quote
willie Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Jim i agree with Dennis, sorry. If your not straight heads up racing, your not racing anything but the clock. Let me also say this, i have the highest respect for the builders and drivers!!! I just happen to agree with Dennis, if its not heads up, you are only racing the clock, somehow or someway!!! Quote

Well I wasn't happy loosing to an Omni either 🤣 But I don't have John force sponsorship coin so I can't afford to tear down an engine after each pass. Yea I'm racing the clock and the other driver. The computer drops the green depending on what time you say you're going to run so mathematically both cars cross the line at the same time. Obviously those times will change during the day due to weather and such. I enjoy it because I have a chance against any car that pulls up alongside me, the default issue is the loose nut between the steering wheel and drivers seat 🤣 2 Quote
Dtret Posted April 13 Posted April 13 I don’t mean to be dissing on the racing. I totally understand. Street racing is pretty much long gone and now it all against the computer. No doubt it’s an art that I never learned. But it’s kinda like a CNC machine cutting out a piece of artwork and the person who takes it off the cutting table holds it up and says “ look what I made “. Yes in theory they are correct but the machine did all the work. Quote
cbolt Posted April 13 Posted April 13 This right here is drag racing. You are all wrong 1 4 1 1 Quote
420ponies Posted April 13 Posted April 13 I don't know, I get my high when watching Nostalgia Drag Racing (Gassers). I guess I was born too late in life. I wish I could be out there working on these cars, making them go faster, seeing the 1st "funny car", the 1st rear engine dragster, seeing all those mph barriers ( and E.T.'s) , broken. That's what I love about Drag Racing ,always striving to do better, with whatever you are running. And today, some of the speeds at only 1,000ft, Now that is entertaining! Oh, and Willie,Dennis , I get it, and I pull no punches!! We are all going "against the Clock". 2 Quote

Drag racing has always been about the clock and the closest to dial -in. I really don’t have an issue because I don’t pay attention to it. I kinda just replied to get Mark going ( and others) because it’s really a die hard sport that is slowly disappearing, which stinks. 2 1 Quote
DragCat Posted April 13 Author Posted April 13 The last time I street raced, I got popped and got a reckless driving ticket 🙃 Expensive lesson 🤣 Yea Dennis, I got into it late in life. I think I'm jinxed cause local tracks are closing all around me 🙃 But like a club meet, some great people you meet along the way. I can laugh with the owner of the Omni, laugh with the charger that I tree'd and I got smoked at the end. Not so much with the new Camaro SS I beat 🤣 The best thing about the Camaro, he bought back in and beat my buddy ( who has like 7 Wally's) in his corvette in the 2nd round. I never fail to bring that up to my buddy 🤣 1 Quote
