Kevin Wiles Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 i'm finally getting around to installing seat belts in the coke machine, i'm using tci racing harness. searching the internet, i am reading that some people are wrapping the shoulder belt around the rollbar's cross bar, not sure how they're bolting it down though. i just don't understand. does anyone have pics? diagrams? all you out there with a roll bar and racing harness, how did you install? should i bolt through the bar or install tabs to bolt it into? etc. etc. For some reason also i've ended up with one harness with a y-shoulder belt (2 belts into one) and one thats two separate pieces all the way out to the single end. but both my seats have the single center hole for the shoulder belt i think..... so how should i proceed? Kevin Wiles Posted May 27, 2009 Author Posted May 27, 2009 also the belt that goes between the legs, where would you mount that? all thats down there is simply just sheet metal. bolt through and use a large washer? Quote
Ian Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 For the rollbar mount, the ones in my old strip only car they wrapped around the bar and it used a buckle almost like a motorcycle helmet strap (if you can picture that) to hold it to the bar. For the between the leg strap, I used a long piece of steel welded to the floor (underneath), and then a bolt thru that. Quote
Kevin Wiles Posted May 27, 2009 Author Posted May 27, 2009 ian for the shoulder belt mine has some sort of buckle on it too (but i think thats just to adjust the length), but it also has the thick steel end that i assume is supposed to be bolted down. i had planned on drilling a hole all the way through the cross bar and i bought grade 8 bolts and nuts and washers ready to go but then i started having second thoughts and thought i better ask Quote
Ian Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Not sure I would drill thru the cross bar... It might weaken it... The buckle will hold it together wrapped around the bar, or bolt them to the floor, or weld a tab to the bar to mount the end to.. Quote
mc71454 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Weld a Tab on the bar..So much cleaner. or the Submarine belt, I used a flat piece of 1/8" and a large washer on the bolt. Quote

Jared Richey Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Why not? The Coke Machine is SHOW ONLY, it will NEVER see a Roundy Round Track, except for excebition purposes, or maybe a trip down a drag strip at at best 16 second range, if that. Really the roll cage in the Coke Machine is fully functional, but useless. Kevin opted for the bolt through the roll bar, to me it looks great. If I were building some 8 second car, then I might think differently. Quote
Kevin Wiles Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 at at best 16 second range, if that. thanks for the compliments on my placement of the bolt for the shoulder harness but why must you go around saying its a 16 second car? none of us know what its capable of but you make it sound as if its a dog Quote
