Chris Bryant Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 I gave up sodas and almost gave up beer. No fast food either so I'll see if any of that helps. 1 Quote

Chris Bryant Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 I will attempt the headliner with the help of my dad. All the mechanical stuff I'll let someone with experience do that stuff 2 Quote

All the mechanical stuff I'll let someone with experience do that stuff A tip for you Chris. As you remove the old headliner, be sure you take sequential pictures of the disassembly. It will help in the reassembly. As mentioned before when you remove the old one mark the rib's that run from side to side so you make sure they go back into the original places. rob 1 Quote
Chris Bryant Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 Ok thanks for that advice. Wonder what it would be like to drive around with no headliner? Quote
willie Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Chris just take your time and take pics or document it. Like Rob said mark the ribs and the holes they sit in. Go slow, and you will be fine. 1 Quote

Rob Peters Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I think the original thread got . I think the original thread was Chris wanting to know why we like these First Gen Monte's so much. I still own my first car, my 29 Ford but my first NEW car I purchased off the Chevy dealers lot was a 1970 Desert Sand Monte. I always loved the way that car rode and handled. Back in 1999 I saw a nice 70 and remembered back to how I loved that car. It was the car my wife and I first dated in, it was the car we took on our honeymoon, it was the car we brought our first child home in. That started my search for the one I have now. rob 3 Quote
cny first gen 71 Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Back to our regularly scheduled topic, I saw my first first gen in mid 70 my brother in law bought a 70 and I really liked it. In the mid 80s I almost bought a 72 but I thought the guy was a little shadey and his asking price was a bit high so I passed. I found mine in 2007 after I ended up scrapping the 64 chevelle I was working on because it needed just to much. Mine was a running driving car when I got it it was just very ugly color and bad paint job. It's been a work in progress ever since. It's a 15 footer I painted it myself. I'm no body guy or painter but it came out ok. That's my story and in sticking to it 😁 still working on it. 4 Quote

Scott S. Posted April 14 Posted April 14 The first car I ever drove was my Aunt's '70..... I wanted to buy it, but my Dad wouldn't let me. So 38 years later I found Montelishi and decided I'd waited long enough to have one. 2 Quote
Scott S. Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Besides, Montes exude a little more class than Chevelles....... And there are fewer around. 3 Quote
stangeba Posted April 14 Posted April 14 OK, 1971 and I was close to HS graduation and my dad said it was time to start looking for a car. My dad told me I should get a new car not some used junk so I went to the local Chevy dealer and started checking out the Camaro and wanted a 71 with the R/S package because I love the open grill design. I talked to the salesman and he told me I would never be able to afford insurance on a Camaro. I left very sad, noy sure what to do next. That night my brother in-law Tom, who worked for Chevrolet at the GM Tech center in Warren, Michigan, brought home a new 71 Monte Carlo. He took me for a ride and I loved it plus it had STEREO where the Camaro did not have that option, I was told. I went to a different Chevy dealer, the salesman wrote me up a cost list with the options, I added a few more and then ordered it. The rest is history. I also meet my wife when I was driving my Monte and her car just broke down. Isn't it funny how some things happen!!!! 6 Quote
