Saw my first one in 1970 in a showroom before I could drive (12+ years old) and thought it was the neatest car I ever saw. I brought home the brochure and hung up the pic of the black SS on my bedroom wall. After many years I finally was in a position to own one and jumped at the chance. Still think it's the neatest car of that era. There are more popular cars from that time but I've always been one to not follow the "herd" and find my own favorite

Mine does as long as the road is smooth. Probably needs a new suspension.

Just remember these are old school technology don’t compare them to the cars of today. You can get them there with a lot of modern parts and plenty of cash.

They released the Monte Carlo on September 18, 1969 and on Sept 20th I ordered  mine. Then the Flint plant went on strike and so 10 weeks later I received my Forest Green, green cloth bench seated interior, AM/FM stero, AC, rear window defogger and small block 400 Monte Carlo. Sold it to my best friend and his wife after 13 months because I was tired of making car payments.

My fathom blue with 402 came out of the Flint plant and the engine code shows mckisson industries so not sure if it is original to car engine. Yes I hate making car payments thankfully all my stuff is paid for.

OK, 1971 and I was close to HS graduation and my dad said it was time to start looking for a car. My dad told me I should get a new car not some used junk so I went to the local Chevy dealer and started checking out the Camaro and wanted a 71 with the R/S package because I love the open grill design. I talked to the salesman and he told me I would never be able to afford insurance on a Camaro. I left very sad, noy sure what to do next.

That night my brother in-law Tom, who worked for Chevrolet at the GM Tech center in Warren, Michigan, brought home a new 71 Monte Carlo. He took me for a ride and I loved it plus it had STEREO where the Camaro did not have that option, I was told.

I went to a different Chevy dealer, the salesman wrote me up a cost list with the options, I added a few more and then ordered it.

The rest is history. I also meet my wife when I was driving my Monte and her car just broke down. Isn't it funny how some things happen!!!!

Insurance costs were my Dad's excuse too.....

He wasn't willing to lose his 5 star rating because the teenage boy living in his house had a car.

Might explain why I grew up to be such a cheap pr*** as well. :k

That kind of sounds like the story of my T-Type.....

Saw it new, found every bit of information, every picture, (pre-internet era) and finally bought one that was 3 years old.

Got almost 200,000 miles out of her before I finally let her go.   :(
