Has anyone dyed there vinyl top? If so what products do you use and how well does it hold up? Would be going white top to black. Picture of the vinyl top I would want to change to black.received_20342812203837112.thumb.jpeg.6047a6b06f896f344b48eeb645dfbdd1.jpeg

And such a drastic colour change would require multiple applications to get the results you want.

Have to be very careful with that because who knows what has been used to clean or condition over the years and have been soaked into it.

Clint, i have never heard of this. That doesn't mean it can't be done. If you want black, then dye it black. If you don't like it, take it to a guy to change the vinyl!!!!!

The issue I have with these so called dyes is that they really aren’t. They’re top coats. There is no penetration as you would have with a fabric dye. Chances are that during its life, that top has had protectants applied that contain silicone, which is an adhesion nightmare. There may be some prep materials out there that won’t harm the vinyl that you could use to strip any contaminants out. IMO I just don’t see any vinyl coating holding up very long in an exterior environment especially black  because it gets so hot. If it were me, I’d wait until I could replace the top. I don’t mean to be the fly in your beer. With that said,  If you’re prepared to replace the top anyway, then I guess there’s no harm in trying.

Clint , It would be much better to replace the top with a new one. It will look so much better. Lutty's has them along with C.A.R.S. Inc., or the parts place. just make sure whoever "lays it on" that they make it fit like the old one. Like the picture you took, seam lines up with the rear deck crease. I've had mine on since '08, still looks good!

Just sayin' that if you can't decide on a vinyl top colour, you could get a rag top and start the process of what colour to use all over again.  ;)

and if you go with changing the top you will get a good visual if anything hidden is starting...as you know ,around back window corners...  peace of mind and a beautiful new top!!

SEM

Clean Clean Clean. Scuff with a scotch Brite wouldn't hurt. Clean more

BULLDOG Adhesion Promoter. 2 coats

Dye black with SM until covered. Use a paint gun, since you are changing colors remove trim around windows.

Warm day in the sun best way to do it.
